Paizo
Paizo was originally founded in 2002 to publish periodicals for Dungeons & Dragons 3.5, the aptly named magazines "Dungeon" and "Dragon." In 2007, when Wizards of the Coast was planning to produce D&D 4E, they declined to renew Paizo's license; the publisher pivoted to producing the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game instead. Pathfinder was an iteration of D&D 3.5 that Paizo continued to support with self-contained "adventure paths" set in their Golarion campaign setting, allowing players who didn't wish to make the jump to D&D 4th edition to continue playing with a more familiar system. Since then, Paizo has published consistent support for its Pathfinder line, including many adventure paths, character options, monsters, items, and other supplementary rules, as well as a science-fantasy spin-off game Starfinder using the same game engine, and second editions for both of their flagship games.
