About me
Greetings Adventurers, My name is Dan, and I love Dungeons and Dragons. My journey into the world of D&D began way back in 1984. Yes, my friends and I were the UK version of the kids from Stranger Things – minus the Demogorgon, thankfully! For the past 5 years, I've been a Dungeon Master in the online realm, guiding and challenging groups of players through countless adventures. I still regularly gather with my friends online for epic campaigns. When I get the chance to step out from behind the DM screen and play a character, I gravitate towards Spellswords. Warlocks, Bladesingers, and Scoradins are just a few of my favorite classes to play. I'm a big fan of livestreamed tabletop role-playing game campaigns; it's a great way to experience different play styles and stories. My two favorite shows are "Natural 6" and "The Dungeon Dudes." Watching other groups play is a fantastic way to learn new strategies, discover different ways to interpret rules, and see how various character personalities and backgrounds can impact a game. It's also inspiring to see how other game masters run their campaigns, build worlds, and create engaging encounters.
GM Style
I'm a Dungeon Master who prioritises fun and lightheartedness in gameplay. While success for the characters is always the ultimate aim, I acknowledge that failure is a natural part of the game, especially when the dice are involved. I’ve experienced that even failure can lead to enjoyable and memorable experiences, and I always ensure that the story accommodates and adapts to such outcomes. I encourage a playful atmosphere at the table, where humor and jokes are always welcome. A well-timed joke can often alleviate the tension of a challenging encounter and add a touch of levity to the game. I like to adhere to established rules, as they provide a solid framework for any game. However, I also recognise the importance of flexibility and creativity, this is where the "rule of cool" comes into play. Players are encouraged to be creative and try things that aren't explicitly stated in the rules. Furthermore, I actively encourage role-playing among players. I believe that one of the best ways to foster immersive role-playing experiences is by allowing players to engage in in-character dialogue and interactions. When planning the infiltration of the Gnoll Stronghold, why not make the plan in character. My NPCs are also designed to be receptive to verbal interactions and role-playing. While I may not have the skills of a professional voice actor, I have consistently received positive feedback for my ability to create engaging and believable NPC personalities with distinct accents. My current virtual tabletop of choice is Foundry VTT. I also use DndBeyond for character creation and leveling, which I sync with Foundry’s in-game character sheets. I'm an adaptable Dungen Master who enjoys both tactical and narrative gameplay. I orchestrate dynamic combat encounters that are strategic and engaging, whether it's a demigod battle or a bandit skirmish. My ability to blend storytelling with mechanics ensures that each campaign is tailored to the players' preferences. From lore-rich narratives to mechanics-heavy combat, I create unforgettable experiences for veterans and newcomers alike.
