About me

Hello! I'm Tyler, you may also see me as Zurest online in the various VTT/Discord/etc. I'm Non-Binary and use He/They pronouns. Most of my time has been with D&D and it is the system I'm most familiar and comfortable with but I am always and forever willing to learn and explore new things, that is how we grow after all. :D I've been a TTRPG-er since 2000ish when I was introduced to Dungeons and Dragons on a summer camp trip and immediately fell in love. Since then I've played in the 3.5th, 4th, and 5th editions of D&D, the older Star Wars D20 system, Vampire: The Masquerade, and Mage: The Awakening. I've looked into Pathfinder, Marvel Heroic, Fate, and the General Roleplaying systems as well, I just havent run or played in these systems yet. I find great pleasure in Tabletop Roleplaying not only because it lets me get all the ideas whirling around in my head out but because I firmly believe that it is a great tool (when used properly) to allow us all to explore tough social and personal issues, beliefs, norms, morays, and paradigms in a safe and relatively non-consequential environment I've been running mostly 5th edition D&D games since mid 2016. I've run adventure modules and homebrewed worlds/settings with influences from my favorite books, manga, and movies. I take great care when running any game to make sure that everyone involved has a clear sense of what boundaries people have, what tone the game will take, what topics and issues we've all agreed on will or won't be present in a given campaign or session. I like to use the method of Lines and Veils. We draw hard lines of what topics and content we will not tolerate, and we have other topics and content we're maybe not 100% comfortable with but are willing to "lift the veil" on, with the understanding that these lines and veils may change over time or not at all. I also strive to be as inclusive and representative as possible in the worlds I create and the games I run. I'm always willing to answer questions and address concerns or issues as they arise. I'm as much a fan of the "crunchier" kinds of games (I once paused a game so the players and I could debate and calculate the physics and mechanics of water displacement caused by an underwater spell explosion) as I am a fan of more "rule of cool", "fast and loose" style of games. I know this is a lot of reading, and I appreciate your time, and consideration of me and the games I'm offering. I hope to see you at the table!

GM Style

* I like crunchy as much as I like great roleplay, and i think both have their place at the table and can make for amazingly fun experiences. * I personally like getting into character, doing voices, acting out mannerisms, etc. * Where it's not too disruptive to the table and everyone's fun I love creative solutions to problems, combat, social interactions, etc. * Setting clear expectations in regards to tone and content in a game. * Use of safety tools to make sure that everyone is comfortable at the table. (Lines and veils, R|Y|G cards) * I like homebrew and 3rd party content and encourage players to bring it up, but I do reserve the right to say no or tweak it to make sure it doesn't unbalance things.
