About me

Hi, wonderful human! I'm Zein. My passion is storytelling and narrative design. I've been making narrative video games for over ten years now and enjoy playing TTRPGs as well, starting to be a DM around three years ago and professionally DM'ing on Twitch for almost a year now. I love stories, I love characters, I love meaningful interactions. I love exploration, wonderous magic, emotions, and high quality production. I use special curated music playlist to strengthen the mood and advance the narrative. But at the and of the day, I make it all about you: The players. If you want to see my DM'ing style, you can chack out my Twitch Channel: https://www.twitch.tv/collections/vdDX8KxmaxbxOg

GM Style

I'm all about characters and narrative, everything else will be adjusted to serve whatever the story is asking for at the moment. I want my players to play who they want to be, to have fun, to feel included. Everyone is welcome, no matter age, country, disabilities, gender, sexual preferences, or anything else. Thus, my game worlds usually strive to be as diverse and inclusive as I can as well. I homebrew everything. As a narrative designer and writer, I am not much of a prewritten campaign guy. So if you choose to play with me, you will get 100% original content!

Amazing DMing! Very patient with new people and was very easy going. Campaign ran great and can't wait to play more with Zein!

Zein is amazing! He was very helpful to me as a new player and answered any questions we had very thoughtfully. His detail and way with words really helped to set the scene, and I absolutely loved the voices that he gave to the characters. His style makes it feel like you're actually in the world as your character, and he does an excellent job making sure everyone feels included. If anyone is looking for an incredible experience, I would highly recommend Zein. I cannot wait to continue and will most definitely use Zein again, as well as recommend him to any of my friends who would be interested. An excellent choice for new and experienced players alike!

Zein is the DM for the sort of players who read every page of lore, complete the dialogue options of each npc, and exhaust all angles of reason before resorting to violence, but also recognize that sometimes words alone are not enough, and must be supported with action (cue the Barbarian). You can also totally pet ALL THE FLUFFY THINGS in Zeinworld. Mostly because he has this annoying habit of making EVERYTHING SO FREAKIN HEARTBREAKINGLY CUTE WHY ARE THERE NO GENERIC UGLY JUST PLAIN MEAN ONE SIDED ENEMIES FOR FRICKSAKE? Murderhobos should move along, as murder is never the correct answer in Zeinworld. Even if it felt like a good decision at the time, you will quickly learn it wasn’t. No one will think you are cool, or the good guy. And Zeinworld will conspire increasingly dire consequences, starting with the screenplay you found on the slain goblin (who was adorable) for his finger puppet play that would have launched a goblin cultural Renaissance had you not stabbed him to death. You have been warned. No matter if you’re new or a seasoned ttrpg player, as long as you’re interested in fun over rule debates, social interactions sprinkled with combat over dungeon crawls, and would generally prefer to make friends with the world as opposed to conquer and/or burn with fire, Zein can build a sandbox where drama arises because of things like natural disasters, political territory intrigue, magic cults and weirdness and such, not discrimination. And it will feel infinite, unique, yet somehow centered on you, no matter how big your party is.

2 ish years ago we started playing every second week with Zein as the DM. Honestly, I am still surprised that the party hasn't fallen apart like so many others and I am sure that a huge part of it is Zein's storytelling and DM skills he brings to the table. We started (as did many, I am sure) with the 'Lost mine of Phandelver' starter campaign for us players to get into the game. I mastered that campaign for one session before (and the group fell apart, duh) but that didn't even matter. He changed so many things about motivations of the 'bad guys' (I think because just beeing 'evil' is not enough of a motivation for a character played by Zein) and it honestly made the campaign so much better in my opinion. In addition to his superb storytelling he leaves a lot the players to decide and shape the world (we went from a player's trial and hiring a lawyer, to literally resurrecting a boss after we killed him, because we felt like his intentions were justified). Zein's voices and combat descriptions are just the icing on the cake (my favorite is the squeaky - cute goblin :)). I hope our adventure will keep going for many years - and it's your turn to start your's - with Zein as your DM ;) (lol, sorry bye)

Brilliant GM. Concise, clear, allows players to roleplay sufficiently instead of railroading or pushing them in one direction. When playing more collaborative games, Zein is more than happy to take on the PC's decisions and the players' suggestions and advice to allow the story to flow more naturally and in a direction that led to everyone having fun. Additionally, he has a wide array of voices that he's definitely not shy to use when the situation calls for it. I would definitely be a player in Zein's game's again without a second thought!

Tl;dr: Great GM. Tenoutaten. Hire him. But more seriously: Zein is the one who introduced me to the world of tabletop games. Well, of course I sort of knew about them before -- Dungeons and Dragons is the kind of game that everyone that matters knows at least something about -- and I even had a passing thought here and there that I should perhaps learn the rules and find a group to play with. But that stayed, dusty, on the list of things I ought to do one day, and I didn't so much as listen to a D&D podcast; not until Sword and Quill came along. I already knew Zein's skills from his work on the game Code 7, in which he did a magnificent job as the storyteller, voice actor and music composer. Therefore, I assumed that a podcast from him would be similarly amazing; and it is! It has been a wonder to hear familiar voices taking up different roles; sometimes serious, sometimes funny, but always passionate about the game. As has been to learn more about the story the GM has been weaving, which is sometimes ripe with foreshadowing that will only resolve delightfully several sessions later, and sometimes improvised so skillfully one hardly notices the difference. But far more importantly, it has been wonderful to observe the chemistry between friends having fun. Everyone is there not to compete against one another, but to, in their own way, contribute to the writing of a great story. When I joined the team this year (as Laetitia Ralliade) I found out that's at least partly because of the DM; he's friendly and approachable, gives his players plenty of freedom, and is always willing to listen to suggestions. I'll stop rambling now. But really, if you're looking for a funny and friendly guy with a love for TTRPGs, a very pleasant voice (with a nice range of scarier ones) and an accent that has been described by many of the stream/podcast listeners as "cute", give Zein a chance. But ... beware of his love of cliffhangers. And puns. Oh dear, the puns ...
