About Jackie

Hello! My name is Sushi, and I love tabletop games. I generally prefer non-fantasy, but I've GM'd lots of systems ranging from old westerns to modern settings, sci-fi and fantasy! I focus on stories and roleplay instead of tactical combat, but there's still a sprinkling of that depending on the system and vibes of the group. I generally prefer to run short and medium length games, ranging from 3-20 sessions, ideally run each week. I can and have run longer games before however! I've been running my own games since 2021 with all kinds of people ranging from friends and family to total strangers. I've gone through a lot of systems and I've become very used to teaching people how to play all sorts of random and niche systems. Beyond just my GM experience, I've also been modelling in Hero Forge for quite some time for all sorts of characters in and out of tabletop games. I've made some music, most of which has been used for my tabletop games in one way or another, but I'm definitely still a beginner in that regard! As you can probably tell from my pfp, I'm a furry! I'm also a trans American Indian. You can call me Sushi or Jackie, I don't really mind. If you're looking for less rules, more cool, or some really really sad and messed up stories, I think I could be the GM for you!

I got started GMing...

In 2021 I ran my first ever tabletop game, Werewolf the Apocalypse 20th edition. I chose WtA because it was the first TTRPG system I played that WASN'T D&D, and I truly fell in love with TTRPGs since I realized the vastness of them.

My favorite shows/movies are

Constantly changing. At time of writing though, Common Side Effects is a wonderfully short show that I adore with how it balances humor and drama, and Chronicle is a cult classic that I love because urban fantasy is just, my absolute favorite.

People are always surprised when I tell them

I don't like fantasy. Urban fantasy is one of my favorite genres, but plain fantasy with swords and spells in medieval times just feels overdone to me and usually a little generic. I still like fantasy things from time to time, but as a whole it's usually not enough to excite me.

How Jackie runs games

When it comes to roleplaying, social and story based elements, I generally like to have them front and center. My stories are more linear and set up than your average GM, but there's still lots of room for improv and growth! Generally speaking, the shorter my games, the more written they are from start to finish. My stories tend to have sad and dark themes with grim choices to be made, but I've also run a handful of light-hearted stuff, including sitcom inspired sessions and such! As for the action, I prefer systems that are rules light and more focused on theater-of-the-mind cinematic action. Tactical combat can be very fun but I haven't had much experience in creating my own scenarios that are truly fleshed out and balanced. I've still run systems with a focus on tactical combat, such as Starfinder 1e! I use both handouts and HeroForge models a lot, so expect that. I tend to stream battle music and ambience, in addition to the occasional song I've made myself.

Rules are...

Important, but not rigid. The whole reason different systems exist is to tell different stories and experience different perspectives, but rules in TTRPGs should also sometimes take a backseat to the spectacle created by the players and GM. Not all the time, but every now and then.
