About me
Greetings, heroes, rebels, and bold adventurers! I am Roland, a seasoned Game Master with over 15 years of experience crafting unforgettable tales of heroism, intrigue, and wonder. Step into these realms, where the boundaries between reality and fantasy blur, and prepare to embark upon a journey that will test your mettle, forge unbreakable bonds, and leave you forever changed. In my worlds, immersion reigns supreme. Every detail, from the rustling of leaves in an ancient forest to the sly smile at the corner of the mouth, is carefully woven to create a tapestry of verisimilitude. Your choices, your actions, and your words hold the power to shape the very fabric of the universe. As you navigate the intricacies of hand-crafted adventures and settings, you will discover that the consequences of your decisions ripple through the lives of those around you, shaping the course of history itself. Whether you are a wide-eyed newcomer to the realm of tabletop role-playing or a grizzled veteran of countless campaigns, my table welcomes you with open arms. I take great pride in introducing players from all walks of life to the boundless joys and compelling narratives that await them. Under my guidance, even the most inexperienced adventurer will soon find themselves at home, immersed in a world that feels as tangible as their own. My passion for world-building knows no bounds, and I draw inspiration from a vast array of sources. From the timeless works of Tolkien and Mary Stewart to the gritty realism of high medieval knights' sagas, from the profound insights of theology and history to the intricate workings of economics and philology, every facet of human experience finds its place within my carefully crafted settings. As a performer with a background in theater, I bring a level of depth and authenticity to every character I portray. From the doddering wise sage to the inscrutable countess, each non-player character you encounter will feel as though they have stepped straight out of the pages of a myth-this time, the myth is your own. My journey began with Worldwide Gameday in 2008, and by the time I began fifth grade a year later, I had already introduced seven friends to the complexities of 4th edition Dungeons & Dragons (On a weekly play schedule too!). Since then, my passion has only grown. I have spent countless hours designing original content for 5th edition, and I have guided players through epic campaigns that span from the humblest of beginnings to the dizzying heights of max-level play. So come, brave adventurers, and let us embark upon a journey that will be spoken of for generations to come. At my table, you will find a home, a family, and an experience that will forever change the way you view the world. Together, we shall forge a legend that will endure long after the dice have fallen silent.
GM Style
You will never be railroaded. If I run published adventures, we will treat them as a framework upon which our own unique tale will be built. I will rebalance and redesign the base game as needed, and will do so with precision. In particular, I have rebalanced and expanded encounter design for mid to high level play with thorough playtesting. Never shy away from playing a class you would love if only it could keep up with others. GMBinder document of general house rules I currently use: https://www.gmbinder.com/share/-Lj8fBQjjLznoL42mFGx Inspiration and rewarding role-play is a cornerstone of how I run 5e. You will see XP from success, so a battle is only one of the options to beat an encounter. I take care to make sure every character has the chance to shine in the way the player wants most, whether in combat, tense negotiation, or searching for secret lore. I will regularly use surveys to tailor the game to the group at the table, and incorporate your favorite elements from a variety of mediums into what the party experiences. Introducing new players to this game and sharing the wonder it can result in is a passion of mine. I have experience inviting virtually every kind of person to the table and fostering a new joy in them. On roll20 I will use sound and music to create moods, ambiance, and heighten the quality of the game. Also, there will always be a map in the background so you have a concrete sense of where you are, whether at the scale of a continent or dungeon. Official 5e adventures I loved as a player or gm: - Waterdeep: Dragon Heist (GM) - Lost Mine of Phandelver (GM) - (Heavily Altered) Baldur's Gate: Descent Into Avernus (Player) - Candlekeep Mysteries (Current Player) Official 4e Adventures I loved as a player or gm - Into The Shadowhaunt (First adventure as a player, GM'd many times) - Keep on the Shadowfell (Player) - Thunderspire Labyrinth (Player) - Motley of adventures from the Scales of War adventure path in dungeon magazine (DM) Campaigns of Note: - Legacy of the Godsblood (5e) (Level 1-20++) (2019-2024) (GM) - Began with Waterdeep: Dragon Heist, then a custom game focused around adventures on the high seas. Created a sailing and ship combat system for this. - The Keepers of Bluestone (5e) (2018-Present) (Player) - Denizens of the Nentir Vale (4e) (Level 1-27) (2008-2017) (Player and GM) Narrative write ups of each session: https://denizens.obsidianportal.com/
