About me
"He understands the purpose and power of these games, and has made himself a master of them, in every sense." My name is Timothy J. Meyer and I've been running games for 20 years. Now, you can hire me to run a game for you! "He brings you into his world as if you were the star of your own TV show." In addition to two decades behind the screen, I'm a freelance writer, game designer and podcaster. I wrote, produced and starred in the webseries EXPERIENCE POINTS, I run an actual play podcast called ALL HAIL YOG, I manage a vibrant Twitter account and am supported by a Patreon – all of which you can check out below, if you're curious about me or what I do! "It takes exceptional skill to place novice players in the driver's seat and give them the confidence to take fun risks while keeping the storyline intact." Despite all my DMing experience, I'm new to professional gaming. I'm excited to meet new players, begin new adventures and tell new stories. If you'd like to give me a test run, I host a free weekly adventure – Tales from the Seventeen Seas – that you can join to get a taste of my table. (It's a pirate campaign because, well, I have a thing for pirates. Remind me to show you my wedding pictures sometime.) "I'm 100% serious when I say my friends and I reminisce about the adventures he's taken us on, as if our characters and those memories existed in our waking life." If you do decide to hire me, my rates are reasonable! I charge $10 / hour / player, with a preferred session time of three hours. My ideal party is anywhere between three and five players but I'm flexible beyond that. Contact me and we'll talk more! "All players leave Timothy's table feeling heard, empowered, and enraptured by a world of imagination that Timothy so wonderfully creates." Immersive storytelling. Custom campaigns. Unforgettable adventure. Hire me and get more from your game. "If you're lucky enough to play with Timothy, he really does ruin every other gaming experience with his incomparable flair for narrative!"
GM Style
I’m all about the narrative. As a DM, I’m interested in character development, plot twists, foreshadowing and thematic arcs. At my table, you can expect plenty of intrigue, politics, mystery, dilemma, lore and – above all – roleplay. My campaigns are especially known for their dynamic NPCs, each with their own agendas, flaws and unique quirks and I like to play them to the hilt, silly voices and all. That’s not to say there’s no combat at my table– far from it! Yet, for me, a fight scene is a scene first. How does it advance the plot? What’re the stakes? What dramatic choices must the characters make? Expect plenty of reveals, betrayals, explosions and drama in the heat of battle. What twenty years behind the screen has taught me, however, that campaigns work best when they’re centered on the player characters. Think of the game like a TV show – with your character as the star. I go above and beyond to anchor you and your narrative choices in the world, presenting you with NPCs, quests, conundrums and victories central to who your character is and what they want. A background in filmmaking has also taught me to think like a director. I often speak in filmic language – “we open with a wide shot”, “we pan across”, “what does the camera see?”. Flashbacks, voice over, cutaways, slow motion are all tools in my arsenal. People have described my games as inherently cinematic. My greatest love, however, is worldbuilding. I often pass my leisure hours, dreaming of new places, new histories, new secrets to populate my fictional worlds. Even when I run published adventures, I’m often reshaping and re-flavoring everything in sight to better fit the story I want to tell. I love names and maps and legends and myths. The deeper and richer the lore, the happier I am. Oh, and I end every adventure with a cliffhanger – that’s the ProDM guarantee!
