About Pax

Hi there! I’m Cody, also known as Pax, a professional Game Master based in San Antonio, Texas. I’ve been playing and running tabletop RPGs for over twenty years, starting back in 2nd edition, spending plenty of time in 3.5, and now primarily running 5th edition. I first got into 5e through Adventurers League, running weekly public games for five years straight with tables of seven or more players. That experience taught me a ton about managing large groups, keeping sessions engaging, and helping both new and veteran players feel like part of the story. Over the past couple of years, I’ve transitioned into running private campaigns full-time, completing six full campaigns and building a wonderful, supportive community along the way. I have a deep love for taking established modules and tweaking them to create smoother gameplay, give characters more meaningful connections to the story, and expand on the content to make the narrative feel dynamic and impactful. If you’re looking for a reliable GM with a strong understanding of the rules, experience handling large groups, and a passion for teaching new players, you’re in the right place.

I got started GMing...

When 5th edition D&D came out, I joined the Adventurer's League at my local game store. Every week, for five years, I ran full tables of 7 players plus me. It game me an almost encyclopedic knowledge of the system, great experience with managing large tables, and more fun memories than I can count!

How Pax runs games

My GMing style has been referred to as "compelling and diabolical". I try to stick close enough to the rules to keep things steady while allowing enough flexibility to foster creativity, and I do my best to adjudicate disputes and murky rules fairly and consistently. I like a balance of combat, roleplay, and investigation in each session but tailor the specifics to fit the group's playstyle. I'm a firm believer in rolling openly at the table as a GM, as well as the philosophy of 'there's always a bigger fish' for more ambitious players. I do my best to do character voices for NPCs and encourage players to invest themselves as well. I enjoy rewarding creativity, risk-taking, and resourcefulness.
