About me
Hey there! I'm Patrick. I have been playing and running TTRPG's for 24 years and have been a paid, professional DM for 5 of them. At their core, I believe TTRPGS are group story telling games. They can be places where people can either explore parts of themselves that they don't feel they have room for in their life outside the game, or fully explore something or someone that is the total opposite of them. Being able to safely explore whatever it is you want at a table isn't just good fun, it can be very life affirming and help you grow as a well rounded person (At least that's what it did for me). The GROUP part of a group story telling game is equally important. I encourage all of my players to accept, manage, share and relinquish the spot light at whatever level they feel safe and comfortable to do so. I like to wrap stories around my players. This isn't just something I created that they eventually experience. This is something we all create together. I love when players create new locations and NPCS and cultures right there at the table that I can just say "Oh yeah, that fits right there". Even if we later have to tweak that creation a tiny bit, I would much rather have my players create to their hearts content. There is just something about the Alchemy of multiple people creating a story in real time. I believe in the rule of cool, communicating everything no matter how small, player agency, safety tools, and making sure the table is inclusive to everyone (Especially people who, historically, may have been gatekept from tables in the past.) Little personal info: I am a disabled (Broke my neck), ADHD, Poly, CIs Gendered Het Male. I have a dog named Tater Tot that was rescued from Priceless Pets. When I am not playing DND I am spending most of my time doing volunteer work for the aforementioned rescue shelter, either doing at home clerical work for them... or socializing with dogs who spend their days stuck in kennels.
GM Style
I am a trained actor and writer, so my games tend to be very immersive. I do tons of voices and get very into descriptions. I like to give space to my players to tell me who their characters are. On top of that, I love combat. I tend to encourage more RP during combat as well. If players just want to roll the math rocks and tell me the numbers to defeat their enemies... that's cool too. I am very much a "What do you want out of their game" kind of gm. Most of my planning and imagining HEAVILY involve the player, their backstory, and their past in game choices.
