About OldMoss

Greetings! I am a veteran GM and Player who has run personal and professional games since 2020. Much of my experience has been with Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition and homebrew settings. I am fond of worldbuilding though I am no stranger to using adopted settings in creative ways to make the most memorable experiences. I am fond of narrative storytelling with descriptive and lively worlds, plots, and player agency galore! I thoroughly believe that players run the session as much as the GM, which is why I often put player actions before my own. In the end, an ideal session is one where player actions and GM guidance makes for an interesting and free experience, without the harsh constraints of oppressive storytelling. I am a “Rule of Cool” GM who loves to bend the rules for the benefit of the overall experience. I try to keep content within comfortable boundaries depending on individual player experiences and ensure that players respect each other. Uncomfortable topics, if they appear at all, are handled with a stern “No” from me or a simple “Fade to Black” transition. Any player's emotions mean a lot to me, so discriminatory language or behavior that is obviously meant to be offensive to another player or myself will not be tolerated.

I became a GM because

I enjoy telling stories and incorporating my hobbies of visual and performative arts into a single space.

My favorite system of all Time is

5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons (specifically 2014 rules.)

When I'm not running games I'm...

Worldbuilding, making new recipes, writing, as well as taking care of my two doggos!

How OldMoss runs games

Roleplay and narrative are aspects I cherish. I enjoy putting on personas, complete with voices and mannerisms to immerse players in a setting. Giving each player satisfying narrative moments and opportunities to interact in unique ways with their fellow party members is what I enjoy most. However, I tailor adventures to individual parties and I have plenty of experience with many tones of adventure, as well as many ways players would interact with systems. In short, roleplayers, combat enjoyers, casual tabletop players, and dramatic actors will all find something in my sessions, even if the party is made up of people who enjoy completely different methods of play. Regardless of approach, I will always try to keep the story, combat, or roleplay exciting.
