About me

In 2005, at age 14, with no prior experience or knowledge of the tabletop RPG hobby, I bought a set of rulebooks, taught myself the game, and started a D&D club at my school. Ever since, I've been organizing and running games, studying game design theory, and making my own systems. I'm a "play to find out what happens", improv-oriented game master, big on collaborative storytelling and keeping my players directly involved in developing the narrative.

GM Style

I am a strong proponent that it's the system (and not the GM or the players) that makes or breaks a game, so any game I run will start with us picking the system: figuring out what we want from the game, and finding the best possible mechanics to facilitate that (even, in some cases, hacking together a custom-tailored system). To that end: The systems that I have listed below are the ones that I have the most experience with – the ones that I can readily run at the drop of a hat. Among those, the ones that I most prefer to run are the post-Forge indie RPGs, like Apocalypse World or even Blades in the Dark, since these are the best-designed to facilitate games where the players are highly involved in creating the story and where we can truly improvise to discover that story together. But! If you have a certain something that you're just dying to try, I can run pretty much anything, in any style, as long as I've got time enough to prepare it. I'm a professional tutor and also a life-long student of RPG design theory. If you're a complete newbie to the hobby, it would be my pleasure to onboard you. If you've played before, but you're hesitant to try an unfamiliar system, I'll break that down for you. If you're looking to start running your own games, I can teach you the vital ideas that you won't find on YouTube advice videos. And if you're looking to take the plunge and start home-brewing, hacking, or designing your own system, then I can help you playtest it and give you critical, constructive feedback on the design.
