About Kevin - Northern Dungeon Master
My name is Kevin. I am the host of Northern Dungeon Master. I enjoy running epic Dungeons & Dragons campaigns. When I run games I create or an amazing module, I unleash my strong, creative side and use my tools of ink and parchment infused with the magic of the weave to transport players from this world to the other planes of existence. Be it the burning Nine Hells, the place of chaotic soupy energy called Limbo or the stable but wondrous Prime. I played the game for the first time at 16 years old (34 years ago) and it was like discovering an unmapped part of my mind. I soon learned the art of dungeon mastering both in adventure creation and execution. I became a storyteller, a designer of worlds and a dungeon master who can be a frenzied orc one minute and a snooty elf noble, the next. As a writer and DM, I must anticipate the choices of players but, also know to adjust to choices that may drive the story in an unplanned direction. I like a good challenge. I revel in planning fantasy adventures, particularly ones where the lesser of all evils must be chosen. This, even if it may be cruel, or worse, tormenting to the party paladin. A good quest tests a character’s strength, dexterity, constitution, intelligence, wisdom and charisma. And finally, a good epic journey will ensure all players are vaulted to hero status. I am interested in learning more about your needs in terms of game. Let's meet in a session 0. I look forward to hearing from you! Kevin Northern Dungeon Master

I became a GM because
I love creating experiences for people to have. Experiences that resonate for a long time.
I got started GMing...
Decades ago as an 18 year old young man. A friend trained me in those early days. Looking back on it it was quite the ride.
When I'm not running games I'm...
Writing novels, exercising and spending time with my partner and our dog.
How Kevin - Northern Dungeon Master runs games
There's so much depth to TTRPGs. I love to role play and understand how much fun it can be for my players. Technical combat is another thing I enjoy. Both of these combined can be great ways to give players a chance to use their creative juices! I do my best to keep the rules streamlined. This said anything is possible with a high role :) or low one :(. Ultimately it's important to me that the players have fun. TTRPGs are such a great way to have this and meet new people!

I deal with rules issues by...
using what I know (and referencing books) and when that gets muddy, I am good at making game time decisions and being consistent throughout the session for my players and my NPCs.
I prep by
starting with an idea and then build in characters and situations that make the world alive with intrigue, suspense and action.
Rules are...
important but flexibility is helpful.
Kevin - Northern Dungeon Master's ideal table
Players that like to role play and engage in combat will fit well at my table. I like players that are respectful and do not tell other players how to play their characters. This said, cooperation is very important at my table.

I love it when a player
uses a creative solution to a pressing problem.
I think it's a red flag when players...
tell another player how to play their character. Asking a player to do something is ok.
