About me

Hi there! I'm Nick (he/him), and I've been telling stories together with friends for nearly as long as I can remember. I started doing so in theater, which is where I work professionally to this day - but when I was a teenager I discovered D&D, and I was hooked. I love the collaborative nature of TTRPGs, the way that they let all of us come together to tell a story that's more exciting, emotional, and surprising than any of us could come up with on our own. And as a GM, I love centering players' creative impulses and their desires for their characters, helping to make player visions come true through collaboration. When I GM, I particularly value safety, inclusion, community, and communication at my tables. I particularly love teaching games to new players, so if you want to try a game out for the first time, don't be afraid to sign up! I believe that games are for everyone, and I work hard to embody that belief while also having a good time bringing my theatrical, writerly, and storytelling skills to bear.

GM style

I'm drawn to fun, relaxed roleplay paired with mechanically robust systems - and I particularly love playing games set in fantastical, exciting worlds. I like to bring quirky, strange, or compelling NPCs to life and I have a good time developing personalities and vocal characteristics for them. I do get a big kick out of challenging players in combat, and right now Pathfinder 2e is my "crunchy" system of choice (I think its combat engine is one of my favorites, and I love its depth of character creation). But I'm also really enjoying robust, specific PbtA games like Blades in the Dark, MASKS, and Apocalypse World. PbtA is a great switch of mindset for me because it gives me structures to share so much of the storytelling details with the players - I want to bring more of that energy into my Pathfinder games! Finally, sometimes you just want to snuggle up and enjoy a quiet, cozy game - and for that, right now I love Wanderhome, which I'll happily evangelize about to anyone. One final note - I LOVE learning new systems. So if there's something you'd like to try, of whatever flavor, and you want to share it with me and have me run it...just let me know! I'd probably be happy to give it a shot.
