About me

Enthusiastic forever DM. I enjoy roleplaying, heroic fantasy, D&D and weaving complex narratives around player choices.

GM Style

I love roleplaying. I see it as the heart and soul of any campaign. To the extent that I can, I play the rules as written, because that's the game that we've all agreed to play. I don't fudge rolls, either for or against you, and I'll make most of them in public. I feel very strongly about this. Dice fudging robs players of agency. It says: no matter what choices you make, or whether the roll succeeds or fails, the story will continue in the way that I prefer. And that's not a roleplaying game, it's just a novel. In a roleplaying game, we're telling a story together, and the narrative weaves around your choices, and your rolls. I have one rule, but it supersedes all the others. We're here to have fun. Don't ruin things for other players. Remember that the DM is a player, too. That includes a lot of stuff I shouldn't have to tell anyone. Don't harass anyone. Don't insult them, or bully them, or make inappropriate comments, you know the drill. But there are a few other things that aren't as obvious. Don't ruin moments for other players. Don't break immersion. Use common sense here. If a player is doing something serious and you crack a joke, you've ruined their moment, and taken something from them. Don't do that. Remember that this is a group experience, and the time needs to be spread across the entire group. If the party wants you to do something on your own, and they're invested in watching you do so, we can play that at the table. Otherwise, solo adventures get resolved with dice rolls so we don't keep everyone else waiting. Give other players room to talk, if they want to. Have your combat turn ready, and get it done as quickly as you can so that the combat keeps moving. If you're unfamiliar with the rules, or playing something that needs longer turns, we can talk about that and streamline the rules that are slowing things down.
