About me

My name is Arran and I have been a roleplayer and GM for over 30+ years, from cutting my teeth on classic games such as Shadownrun and Vampire the Masquerade, and playing every edition of D&D. Between work at the moment as I solving the every tricky Gordian knot of Mental Health, so searching for things that I love and wish to do more and I love being a GM. As well as being an active GM for a few irl RPG's I am also a Plot Writer for Profound Decisions award winning UK Larp Empire and have several playtesting credits for various Chronicles of Darkness games. In terms of what I like to run, as the years have gone by I have gravitated to more simple or rules medium games with a heavy impetuous on narrative roleplaying and character interactions. I have become a particular fan of games that use the Forged in the Dark ruleset as well as the awesome licensed games that have come out from Free League publishing. I hope to create a safe and creative space for people to come and game in and look forward to introducing people to games that don't necessarily get a lot of mainstream attention.

GM Style

I have a wide ranging knowledge and familiarity with a variety of systems, settings and genres and always willing to try something new and different. My games tend to be focused on the narrative first, with combat and rules a secondary concern. (Though this will vary from system to system). I love roleplaying NPC's and always try my best to make them memorable and engaging. Sometimes I will use accents, these are sometimes good, sometimes goofy, never boring. My games will have their serious moments, sometimes exploring dark and adult themes that players are comfortable with, but I will never shut down lighter moments and humor for the sake of an authentic tone. Safety tools, I like to use Session 0 (or take time in a one shot to discuss the game) and the x card as my go to safety tools and I am always looking for ways to make my games safer and inclusive. I will always try and included a comprehensive content warning list for my games and no game that I run will ever have on screen depictions of rape, sexual assault or violence against children (though in the right circumstances can be a character background).
