About me

I'm Michael J Patrick (Michael or MJP). I'm a writer, illustrator, and game designer with forty years of experience in TTRPGs. I've written adventures published for the Privateer Press "Iron Kingdoms" setting and been placed in Paizo's top 16 RPG Superstars. My table is open to all sorts of players of all backgrounds and is LGBTQ friendly. 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 I'm a father and welcome to all ages at the table as long as everyone is having fun. I believe in starting with a session zero so that all the players can discuss what they want out of the game.

GM Style

I work with my players to provide an experience they'll all enjoy. I don't take the game too seriously and am ok with table talk, asides, and fun characters. However, that doesn't mean the game is a constant goof-fest either. Character death is always a possibility and player's choices matter. Most of all I like to collaborate with my players for a unique, dramatic, fun-filled campaign.

I was nervouse getting into this as a first time user of this site, and not really knowing what to expect, especially as I had signed up all 5 members of my family to have a private session with him. Michael was kind and funny for the entire duration, and the kids loved the characters. All of us laughed out loud many times, and cheered a lot too. He gave my kids a lot of room to be silly and get excited. I would highly recommend Michael and I will be using him again.

MJP has a great sense of humor, loads of good world building ideas, and a real flair for interesting characters. When his players have done campaign-derailing nonsense, he rolled with it perfectly and spun new adventures out of the new circumstances. The party was never stuck on rails and ran into no invisible walls; our actions had consequences but even our worst choices never ended the fun. MJP is an all around fun guy to play with, and very much recommended as a GM.

Michael is a creative GM who combines his vast and deep knowledge of the mechanics of RPGs with his creativity and humor to make game play engaging and fun. Michael is also very patient with beginners, and knows how to balance a campaign to allow for all players at all levels to be equally involved in the action. His kindness, creativity, drawing skills, and knack for world building and storytelling all make for a great GM and an inclusive, safe gaming space.

Michael ran several campaigns across multiple years for a group of adult players who generally arrived at the table with a lot on our minds besides the adventure. He kept the stories moving despite our forgetfulness without railroading things, and he kept the new gamers at the table from being overwhelmed when more experienced campaigners began delving deep into rules/lore/etc. There was always a healthy mix of world building, role playing and dice-heavy punchups, high-stakes adventures and humor. We did everything from 10th-plus level character adventures where gamers had superheroic powers to 1st level "reboots" (with gamers who forgot that they could die from a sword stroke or two). Michael is also a great graphic artist who can bring characters and NPCs to life with pencil-and-ink, but the best parts of the campaigns are usually the parlays with goofy/spooky characters.
