About MaxSoulGMz
Hello, I'm MaxSoulGMz, aka Brian. I've been coordinating games, especially asynchronous play-by-post, for over five years, running many storygames from Blades in the Dark to Grimwild, with a focus on cinematic, character-first and character-driven campaigns. Let's connect, build friendships, and learn from each other! Exhibit your creativity and retain absolute player agency. Expect a collaborative, emotionally rich table where meaningful choices pave the story. Transparent metachannels so everyone’s expectations—including mine—are understood and respected. Your feedback will always be heard. I thrive on being adaptive and committed to growth, both as a GM and as someone who values strong, lasting connections in and out of the game. 🧭 Want a peek at how you will play? I got started GMing...
Because I was awestruck by Roleplay Series on YouTube and TTRPG Podcasts. It was eye-opening and one of the first few avenues where I feel I can truly enjoy being myself without being afraid that I will be judged. Most-importantly, the fortune of making great friends kept me in this field.
My favorite system of all Time is
Grimwild. It retains the thematic feelings of D&D while opening up for creative interpretation and freedom. Its Forged in the Dark-based dice system allows us to experience varied consequences and gives players huge permission to be their Characters during play.
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
Creative, Patient, Playful

How MaxSoulGMz runs games
🍷 Roleplay is king. Between PCs and NPCs alike, expect plenty of banter, bonding, and tension. You'll experience NPCs built with flair—quirks, speech, posture—and your PCs are invited to clash, connect, and evolve with them. 🌱 No need for overgrown backstories. Just bring a PC open to change and fun ideas. Your story will grow naturally through the world’s response and the group’s shared creativity. ⚔ Encounters have bite. They're layered, dynamic, and ready to reward bold moves. Style matters. Creativity counts. If you’re here to spin, swing, and improvise—this is your stage. 🌍 The world reacts. Choices ripple. Factions shift. Plots twist. Your PC’s impact is permanent—and if you're game, their legacy can echo long past the finale. TL;DR: Roleplay-Driven • Evolving Characters • Tactical Drama • Reactive World 💻 Best with: Grimwild, Blades in the Dark, Band of Blades, Ironsworn. Also solid in Fallout 2d20.

I prep by
Many well-known techniques, the primary one being the 7-3-1 Technique. However, the prep I love most will always be improvisation on the fly. Nothing fits that instant better than an idea born out of that instant, a culmination of narrative build-up, players' action and a spark of inspiration.
My games focus on...
Throwing your Character(s) into situations, rather than at obstacles. It will be up to your Character(s) to find problems and then solve them in their own ways. I want your Character to have full autonomy to be themselves despite the system.
Rules are...
Meant to be Observed, Broken, then Reshaped. I believe that, rarely, more than one table enjoys a game the same way. Hence, I run the first few game sessions RAW. Then, with the table's acknowledgement, hack in helpful rules from other systems and modify existing rules to support the table's fun.
MaxSoulGMz's ideal table
Cinematic, character-first, and fiction-forward. Play in games where you drive the story. The system serves the moment, not the other way around. Rules flex once trust is built. Improvisation fuels the momentum. Out-of-character: Relaxed, open, and collaborative. Your feedback, questions, and narrative ideas are highly welcome. You’ll fit right in if you: - Thrive on character-driven play - Love building the world through action - Enjoy narrative consequences over stat checks - Want to shape the story, not just follow it

I am for a vibe that's...
faithful to who they are when In Character. Otherwise, when Out of Character, relaxed and friendly. In addition, not afraid to ask any questions about mechanics or for clarification on the narrative when needed.
If you're into ___, you're going to love my table
Character-driven stories. You will have a lot of character autonomy, giving you a huge rein to experience situations as your character.
I love it when a player
Actively and positively build the narrative by suggesting fun ideas, adding fluff/set dressing and involving the Character('s background). Between Sessions, the player gives feedback and helps me and themselves have an enjoyable game.
