About me
I’m a professional fantasy writer, artist and English teacher. I've been playing table top games for a good long while and eventually got into D&D. The game even crept into my classes as I quite often use a simple version of it to teach English. Which means I run two to three games a day. I have over 20 years' experience working with groups through my various jobs. I've been a climbing instructor, worked in the outdoor pursuits industry, taught English around the globe and converted most of my friends and family into D&D addicts! What you get from my games is custom content and a homebrew world with what I hope to be fun, exciting and amusing adventures. Most days I teach through gaming, write fantasy fiction, sketch monsters and maps and play D&D. Oh yeah, I actually find time to leave the house occasionally too.
GM Style
I love voicing characters and roleplay in my games and love it when players really get into their characters. When it comes to rules: whatever keeps the game moving and makes it fun. I'm open to wild solutions to in-game problems and the rule of cool. I like to throw in a few homebrew mechanics to surprise players and tweak or mash-up classic foes to keep the game fresh for experienced players and new players alike. All my games are thoroughly play-tested before going live.

Phenomenal gameplay! Mav is a great DM and runs a very fun game! Rp opportunities are deep, as well as the breadth of world content. Combat is an absolute blast, and in our first session we were able to have 4 individual combat encounters! Wohoo! Mav’s introduction of visuals and sounds happen so seamlessly you start to just embrace them as reality in gameplay which is incredible and chill evoking. I’ve played a ton of games and have a very wide knowledge of the rules, which can be abit challenging for DMs to deal with, but Mav is a master, very knowledgeable, and handles all manner of situations with grace and confidence. If you have bandwidth to add one of Mavs games to your day, do so! You will love it. I would definitely be considered a meta-gamer. I love optimization and super strong characters that have tasty flavor, and never was I once bored or feeling like I was being intentionally neutered in-game, like happens so often! Continuing this thought, If you find yourself hesitating at limited content for character creation, don’t. Mav is very fair and works with players to find balanced character builds that still give the flavor your looking for! (We all know how broken characters can get when you mash all sourcebooks into a single character…). Seriously, book a session and see for yourself!
Mav is a talented game master, my fave, without hesitation. Captivating story teller, he always manages to make a DnD game unique. His stories, enlivened with a large panel of voices, are full of catchy details and unexpected choices. He has the ability to adapt the story instantaneously to whatever could happen to your character. If you like to have fun in lush-atmosphere-epics, Mav is your guy!
Mav totally throws himself into the worlds and stories that he builds, and it really comes through in the games that he runs. He loves weaving character backstories into the overall plot of a quest, and is open to players being creative with how they play out their personal traits and histories. He's not afraid to hit his players with difficult situations and foes, so you feel like you're genuinely challenged. I've spent countless hours at his table, both virtually and f2f. (Top tip: With Mav as GM, witty remarks and well-timed movie quotes are your speediest routes to winning a cheeky dose of inspiration). I highly recommend!
