About me

Hello! My name's Jacob. I've been playing D&D for 12 years. I've been DMing for 5. I have experience playing D&D 3.5 and 5e, Monsterhearts 2, Kids on Brooms/Bikes, SW5e, and many other TTRPG systems. I tend to craft stories around character backstories and try to tie them to one or two major themes, e.g. Identity, Conflict vs Peace, Corruption, Community, etc. However, I also have experience weaving character backstories into preplanned arcs. I also tend to run in homebrew worlds I make; the current one I'm working on is a cosmic horror AU of the Pacific Northwest(USA), however I've made more explicit fantasy ones. However, I have experience running in other worlds such as Exandria and Greyhawk.

GM Style

My GMing style tends to focus on roleplay a bit more than the battle mechanics side of things, however that's not to say I don't love a good fight because I know how good it feels to finally use that ability you've been waiting to use. And I will actively celebrate and reward players who can outsmart me. I try to use character voices when I can but typically end up either falling back to a British or Western Film accent. I also put a heavy emphasis on the impact of collaborative storytelling, so I may ask my players for some details in a scene or to describe the kind of people who are in a tavern. However, I will 100% respect if a person is uncomfortable doing that. Additionally, I love the Rule of Cool and will change the mechanics of the game to fit an interesting story beat or a clever idea from a player. So if you are more strict with the rules of any TTRPG we may not be a good fit together. Finally, I will always put on a free Session 0 to establish the kind of story we want to tell together, themes and tropes y'all like, and, of course, implement safety tools like Lines and Veils and any others the players bring and decide upon as a group.
