About me
Greetings Folks! You can call me Jordan! Since Elementary school, I have been enraptured by fictional worlds depicted in various media; I could not get enough. I was a voracious reader, watcher of TV and film, and player of video games, and when my best friend told me about a game where I could create said worlds or explore them with my friends, my life was changed forever. Being somebody who always loved sharing media and creative works with my friends and family, I fell into the GM role quickly and fell hard. Since those days, nearly 25 years ago, I have tried my best to have AT LEAST one tabletop RPG running. As we grew and moved away, I decided to discover the numerous online platforms which facilitated my continued hobby. I also helped as many people into this hobby as possible, be it at libraries, local game stores, or jobs I have held, always assuring that the game would be professional, beginner-friendly, and respectful of every player's style and needs. This hobby is genuinely symbiotic, collaborative storytelling wherein everybody can be a hero or a villain, try on a personality they may never have in real life, or one they've always wanted to be. There is something so special about role-playing and engendering it within players, be they stalwart vets or fresh-faced newbies. On the other hand, I also adore the way that particular designers, publishers, artists, et al. can do to help achieve these goals. The symbiosis of mechanics and role-play and how a game presents that is another thing I love to probe endlessly. Mechanics take as much a role as the role-playing at my table, though I will never let it hinder the vision somebody has for their story. I would say my strengths as a Game Master include The variety of games I have knowledge of/offer to run, my ability to integrate backstory and lore into active adventure settings, a knack for maintaining a balanced pace of the game with quality character interactions, combat, and exploration throughout, excellent at teaching and recruitment of players who may never have the opportunity to play an RPG, and lastly my ability to adjust expectations and utilize safety features for any and all players of all stripes. Games are special! Together, we can make memories that will last ages!
GM Style
My GM style is a hybrid between crunchy game-play to explore the mechanics of games, only to examine and change these in ways an evolving story is sure to do. I am adequate at character voices, but it is not my strong suit. However, I am very good at remembering character details and integrating spur-of-the-moment elements into ongoing campaigns. I enjoy exploring themes and characters in a game, often focusing on truly nuanced character work and storyline. When running combats in games that heavily rely on that, I do my best to make it incredibly smooth for the players and allow them to approach situations as they may in an immersive simulation, like when I first realized TTRPGS were like a video game that reacts to the player having near infinite agency. I also enjoy multi-session character arcs that are as important, if not more so, than the overarching storyline I may have prepared. The game isn't mine. It's ours.
