About Spencer

When I first became a GM, I was drawn in by the endless possibilities of the ttrpg experience. And after 8 years of hosting games, I've found there's no better way to get your creativity flowing with a group of friends. Game Hosting quickly went from a light hobby to a life mission for me. My personal quest: bring you a memorable and thoroughly entertaining game.

When I'm not running games I'm...

working in film and TV 🎥

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

creative, friendly, and funny 🤪

I became a GM because

I got addicted to the rush of improvising epic stories with all kinds of people! 🎲💥🐉

How Spencer runs games

I like to run my games guided by the rule-of-cool. That's not to say that tactical players aren't welcome! I just focus on building a narrative full of humor, tension, heart, and white-knuckle action. I'm willing to get crunchy with tactical players, but I prioritize keeping the pace up with common sense rulings that keep the game moving! I'm great with character voices and role-playing, as well as guiding players through the mechanics of the game. I also enjoy adapting to the challenge of players with more experience or with power-gaming in mind.

Rules are...

a great starting point! The rules exist to support a fun narrative experience, so I often improvise around rules to keep the narrative moving in favor of the player characters. On the GM facing side, I adhere more closely to the rules as written to keep things fair and fun.

My favorite trope is...

"enemies to friends"! I love this character arc, as it reminds us of our ability to grow, change and create harmony. Don't be surprised if you run into a likeable bad guy in my game!

When it comes to voices

I'm no professional, but I give it all I've got in the hopes to create an environment where my fellow players feel comfortable putting themselves out there creatively as well.

Spencer's ideal table

My ideal table is full of collaborators: players that are willing to help each other narratively and with gameplay. I also love the feeling of collaboration between GM and player! This story is OURS. Your character brings history, detail, and direction to the game. My ideal table also has instigators: characters that bite on the quest hooks, investigators willing to dive into a mystery, heroes that throw themselves into action. Last and MOST IMPORTANT: my ideal table is composed of communicators, because no matter what system we are playing, the game is a conversation. That conversation thrives when the table is unafraid to ask questions, speak up about their feelings, and capable of handling disagreements respectfully.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

Dungeons and Daddies! That show is story-driven and unafraid to let the players and game mechanics lead the way even if that way is OFF THE RAILS. It also balances dark, mature themes with an overall humorous and triumphant vibe.

I think min/maxing...

As long as it doesn't overshadow the other players and makes sense in the narrative, it can be great! Before you min/max take the other players into consideration. As for me, I enjoy the challenge of GM'ing for a min/maxing player.

I love it when a player

Asks for a bit of narrative control. It helps the flow of the game if the player pitches in to the scene by asking questions. "Is there a table I can hide under?" Sure! "Is there a relevant book on the shelf?" Of course! "Are there any healing potions around? (I'm at 1 HP)" Yes!
