About me

If you enjoy the narrative, taking stories and making them yours, seeing how your characters grow over time, unravelling mysteries, solving challenges, and shaping the worlds they inhabit, then there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy the games I run. I would say I’m a fairly relaxed GM. My focus is on creating a world that is fun for you to explore. Fun, of course, can mean different things to different people at different times. It could be moments of silliness and hilarity, forging relationships between characters and with NPCs, uncovering the secrets of the game world, turning a near TPK into an epic win, or finally taking down your characters’ nemesis. I endeavor to run games where all of that and more can happen and that all players have the chance to participate and shine. For longer campaigns, I will take your character’s backstory and weave it into the game world to create special moments and story arcs that speak to who they are and deepen your immersion into the story. I believe that rules are the framework that make the game work. They’re there to provide a common, (hopefully) reasonable, and consistent foundation from which to let creativity and fun flourish. They’re not for penning players in or for picking apart to find ‘game-winning’ loopholes. I generally follow the rules of a given game as closely as possible (as far as I can remember them…) but may ditch some minor/obscure rules if we find them getting in the way of a good story. Totally made-up FAQ 1. How do you manage player safety and comfort? There are some things I don’t allow in my games by default because I’m not comfortable with them, they’re usually highly problematic, and they don’t need to be a part of the game. These include: • Physical, mental, or emotional abuse/torture • Explicit sexual activity of any kind • Child abuse • Abuse of animals • Murder hoboing • PvP I recognize that everyone has different sensitivities and that, as a GM, I may have blind spots. I use the Lines and Veils system to establish a safe foundation for a campaign prior to starting. It allows all players to anonymously provide a list of issues they would like to be excluded from the game completely (lines) and those that can be referenced but not roleplayed or discussed in detail (veils). I also use an X-Card system for one-shots and in every session – any player can either message me in private or just put their hand up and call for a scene they’re uncomfortable with to end without the need to explain why they’re feeling uncomfortable. 2. Are you an equal opportunity GM? Yes! No matter our gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age (so long as you’re an adult), religious/spiritual leanings or lack thereof, shoe size, or whatever other aspect of humanity we use to separate ourselves as individuals, we’re all human beings with one thing in common – a love of playing TTRPGs and collective storytelling and it's my belief that more diversity makes for richer, more enjoyable stories. 3. Do you do voices? Absolutely. You can pay me extra not to (just kidding…unless you want to). Please note, I don’t claim that any of my accents are any good in any way. 4. What experience do you have as a GM? Excluding my very first dabbling in the hobby that began with a red box (if you know, then you know) many, many moons ago, I have been GMing in earnest since 2019 when I ran Curse of Strahd for a group I had previously been a player in, and I then went on to run Rime of the Frostmaiden for them. After nearly 4 years of epic 5e campaigns, I decided I wanted to try something else. Since then, I’ve run Vaesen, Coriolis, and Mutant Year Zero (Genlab Alpha – still ongoing). 5. Do you use AI in your games? No. All artwork (including maps) used in my games is either official content from the publishers or is sourced from paid content creators (usually from Patreon). I also only use music and ambient sounds that I’ve paid for or are available under the creative commons license. 6. What if I don’t know and don't have a copy of the rules? Not a problem! Many of the games I run have free quickstart rules you can download as a PDF so you can get a heads up on the fundamentals of the game. Regardless, all the rules you'll need to play will be available in a reference section of the online VTT which you’ll be able to log in and reference when you need to, and we’ll learn rules as we play. 7. What if I’m not familiar with the game setting? Also, not a problem! It can be quite intimidating playing in a game with a large established canon if you’re not that familiar with it, especially if other players are deep into the lore. Fear not! Firstly, I’m never going to remember all the minutiae of huge established universes anyway and I’m happy for players to chip in with their knowledge. But more to the point, I don’t run games that require those minutiae to feel authentic and enjoyable. So, if you’re not steeped in the lore, you should still have fun and will pick it up very quickly as we go. 8. Are all your games voice and video? Nope. I started out playing internet games with voice only. Over the years I transitioned to voice and video with an established group of players because we had gotten to know each other and agreed the experience was more fun and interactive if we could see each other. Because of this, I prefer voice and video, but I’m well aware that some folk are more comfortable with voice only and I’m more than happy to run games with no video on request. 9. I’ve never used Foundry or any VTT before. What do I do? Fretter ye not! The Virtual TableTop interface can seem a bit intimidating at first and different VTTs do things differently. If you can use a computer, you’ll pick up the basics soon enough. All campaigns will start with a session zero in which I’ll make sure you're familiar with the VTT and how to navigate and use it. For one-shots, there usually isn’t enough time to do this in detail, so I’ll guide unfamiliar players through the process of what they need to do as we play. Platforms 🖥️ Foundry VTT (through forge-vtt.com) is currently my primary platform for running games. 💻 Roll20 – I’ve used this in the past but don’t currently have a Pro subscription. I can use this for campaigns on request. 📞/📺 Discord for voice and video 1d12 games I can run for you on request (some of these will need a bit of time for me to setup) 🎲 Dragonbane 🎲 Achtung! Masterful Storytelling I have been a player with Tim as a GM for many years now. I keep on coming back because he is so good at telling a story. I mean really good! The worlds and campaigns he has run have always been so immersive. From really excellent descriptions to amazing character voices which really elevate each session to an extraordinary level of engagement and fun. Each campaign is meticulously crafted with rich lore, intriguing plot twists, and multi-dimensional characters. Tim’s ability to adapt the story in response to players' actions ensures that every decision feels impactful and meaningful, making the world feel truly alive. What has also been really important for me as someone who is a bit socially anxious and a female, is having a GM who is committed to ensuring that all players feel included and valued. And Tim absolutely does that. His games are welcoming, safe, supportive and everyone playing the game gets a chance to contribute and shine. Tim is great at tailoring the game to all levels of experience and making sure that everyone has a great time. In all the campaigns that I have played with Tim our group has always developed a strong sense of camaraderie which makes the game so much fun. I would highly, highly recommend Tim.

I haven't had much experience with other GMs - partly because I've now had Tim as my GM for 3 multi-year campaigns (not including several 1-shots). And that's because I enjoy having him as my GM. Summarizing: - Tim is committed to the task. He prepares conscientiously, which is no mean feat for the sandbox campaigns that we've played. - Tim isn't a tyrant. He appreciates that this is a shared experience, and that he is a guide first and foremost. - Tim is an adult. Rule of Cool, Don't be a Dick - all of those are applied effortlessly to ensure that the group (GM included) enjoy the game experience. - He may not be listed as experienced on this platform, but he's been doing this a long time. And it shows. He listens and accommodates, he pre-empts, and is able to handle all the usual shenanigans, be it Main Character Syndrome, Murder Hobo, Evil Stereotype, Rules Lawyer - he's seen them all, and has dealt with them all.

Tim has been my game master for several years now in either weekly or fortnightly games. He is an incredible story teller that works really hard to weave your character's back story into the campaign narrative. He is also really really good at voices and accents which leads to very immersive sessions. I'm forced to pick only three tags but if I could select more I would add Inclusive/Safe, Knows the Rules and Good for beginners without a moment's hesitation.
