About Aldrath
Hello! The name's Aldrath, and I've been playing RPGs since 2017. First got my start in 5e, and soon after moved on to other RPGs such as Call of Cthulu, Shadowrun, and FATE. My current RPG obsession is Everyday Heroes, a system inspired by the old ModernD20 system that uses the 5e OGL and has a focus on cinematic action-packed adventures. Some other games that I've been collecting and reading but haven't had the chance to play is Cyberpunk Red, Triangle Agency, Deathmatch Isle, and Traveler. One of these days I'll get around to running them, but for now, I've got plenty of great game ideas to make some great campaigns for you all!

I got started GMing...
with D&D 5e in 2017. I rediscovered the game playing in adventures league and wanted to bring the game to my friend group, but I was the only one with experience. So I picked up the original Tyranny of Dragons campaign, watched some youtube videos, and became a river to my people.
My favorite books are
urban fantasy in the vein of Dresden Files or Percy Jackson, Black Library 40k fiction, or graphic novels such as Starstruck, Love and Rockets, or Fables. Yes I count graphic novels as books, you wanna fight about it, book me for an arena battle.
When I'm not running games I'm...
usually doing one of several things: Writing (worldbuilding, session planning, or fiction), Gaming (video games, wargames, and playing TTRPGs), Painting (pretty much exclusively minis), 3d Printing (also exclusively minis), or Reading (see the other prompt)
How Aldrath runs games
Usually my style is very on combats/encounters (since FATE also has noncombat encounters). I enjoy having some dynamics in my combats so I usually place encounters in interesting environments or playing around with special enemy types. I also enjoy using voices in my roleplay. I have a decent grasp of several accents and impressions, just enough to give variance to some NPCs.

I deal with rules issues by...
taking about 10 to 20 seconds to look up the rule in question. If I can't find it within that time, I'll make up a ruling and we'll move on. Usually I have some kind of PDF of the rules open anyway, so it's usually easy to find, but you know, sometimes it isn't.
Rules are...
meant to be the baseline for the system. They set up the expectations on how the game is played and the overall feeling of playing in that system. That being said, I'm always willing to bend or even break the rules to help tell a better story.
Aldrath's ideal table
I like to keep the table semi-casual, enough for everyone to joke around and talk but focused enough on the game at hand. The players that fit at my table are ones that understand the rules of the game enough to be effective but also enjoy the roleplaying aspect enough to make fun and wild swings in the name of a good story.

I love it when a player
gives themselves goals and projects within the game world for their character to pursue. It always feels like a little gift when a player asks for me to hand them a side quest and I get full license to make the hoops for them to jump through.
I think it's a red flag when players...
start scrolling on social media or otherwise playing on their phone. It means that either A) that player is choosing not to pay attention, which is bad player behavior, or B) the game is stalling or boring and the GM needs start changing gears.
