About me

Hi, I’m Matthew, I love playing/running dungeons and dragons, and the creative aspects of the game. I’ve been running 5e for about 7 years. I’ve run games for total newbies as well as veterans alike, with ages as young as 6. I really enjoy facilitating a fun world for the players to interact with, and creating dynamic, challenging, yet fun encounters, all with a low-pressure laid-back style. Typically, I run a high fantasy, high magic style game where death is a possibility. Usually, I run by the rules but leave room for the rule of cool to reward player creativity and ingenuity. I tend to cater my world and game to the way my players like to play, including homebrew rules or tweaks to current 5e, to create characters closer to what’s envisioned, as well as a game the players will enjoy. My world is a sandbox of adventure for my players to explore and discover, while leaving room for my players to impart aspects of their characters into the world, as it’s an ever growing and changing realm. My combat is generally quite tactical using gridded maps. For immersion I use some basic music or sounds, as well as images of NPCs, locations, items, or handouts; such as maps, journals, letters, etc. While I’m new to paid dungeon mastering, with my 7+ years of TTRPGs experience, a creative imagination, and a love for the game, I believe I can provide a fun and engaging experience for anyone looking to adventure.

GM Style

I love to run relatively high magic, high fantasy style games. Definitely heroic fantasy with strange magic, or sometimes otherworldly beings. Homebrewed- Creating worlds, gods, government, cities, monsters, dungeons, items, etc. is a passion of mine. I love creating homebrewed items specific to my players, as well as creating chaotic or random roll items. Homebrewing my world also allows room for players to leave their mark and watch the world grow and shape around them. Tactical combat- I love using gridded maps, elevation, cover, environmental hazards, etc. I am skilled in combat descriptions and rather enjoy it. I tend to run a faster pace combat by keeping the scene moving and letting players know who's up next, so they can prepare. Exploration- My world is full of lore and history as well as artifacts and interesting Npc's for my players to explore and interact with. Puzzles, traps, riddles and varying environments can all be found within the game world. Roleplay- I enjoy the back and forth of roleplay and learning more about the PCs (player characters) thru their story. I do character voices however crude they may be, as I'm no voice actor. Immersion- I use battle maps, tokens, as well as world and city maps, npc pictures, and handouts, such as journals, notes, etc. I use some basic music as well. Voice modulators is something I'm looking into, to help increase immersion.

Very imaginative. Ive played many, many campaigns with him. Hes an outstanding story teller while weaving all the player narratives seamlessly into his world. I've never had a bad session while he was my GM. Im allowed to show my individuality without feeling left behind or overwhelming the other plotlines. If you love a fun, creative(but still very true to the rules), and a heavy combat game that allows you to completely immerse yourself in the fantastical wimsy, Matthew is the GM for you!

Matthew's games are always fun, creative,& challenging enough to keep me coming back for more. I like how he allows his players some creative leeway in the making of characters while staying true to the core rules. There is a good balance between social encounters (role playing opportunities) and combat in all of his games that I have played in. The combat sessions are always challenging and in line with the story that is being told and not just tossed in as a means of keeping players "occupied".

He has ran several games for me and has always done a great job working with my ideas and help create homebrew items for my characters to obtain in the game. His narration is plenty good for my imagination and his combats are tough he doesn't hold back or fudge dice rolls which I appreciate. The game is fun and engaging. I would recommend if you love combat as much as social encounters and you want a DM who's willing to cater to the players.
