About me

Hello and welcome! My name is Gage. Though I am new to StartPlaying, I have 7 years of experience with tabletop games, specifically Dungeons & Dragons, and 3 years of experience as a DM (Dungeon Master). My first experience with D&D was in high school when my teacher ran a game for me and some other students. Since then, tabletop games and collaborative storytelling have been an important part of my life. Imaginative and engaging storytelling is a cornerstone of every good game, and I do my best to ensure that every game I DM for includes storytelling that leaves players wanting more. As the DM, I also believe players should have the creative space to flex their characters’ skills and grow into their fully realized versions of themselves over the course of the game. A mathematics major and software engineer by training, I thoroughly enjoy learning all the ins and outs of the mechanics and rules of different tabletop games, and games of every kind. My knowledge of D&D 5e is extensive, and I love to use that knowledge to teach new players how to play as well as create creative challenges for more experienced players. When I’m not DMing or playing tabletop games, I enjoy playing video games, cooking, working out, and spending time with my wife and two cats. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions! GM Style

As a GM/DM, I try to strike a balance between the three pillars of D&D (combat, social encounters, and exploration). I work closely with each and every player to create a character that feels exciting and engaging to them while also fitting neatly into the campaign. I believe that the best characters are ones that have room to grow and develop as the story progresses, and I work hard to make every player feel like their character is important and that their actions and decisions have meaning. During each session, I will use background music and soundscapes to create a sense of immersion in the story. Players will have the ability to raise or lower the volume of the music individually. I will also sometimes use voices and sound effects for NPCs (non-player characters) and monsters. Combat will be descriptive and flow naturally. Puzzles and riddles will be kept to a minimum, though I do love to be surprised and strongly encourage my players to come up with creative solutions to obstacles. Once you sign up for a game, you can expect regular and prompt communication from me through the Discord server. I am always available for questions and will help you with everything and anything you need to know for the campaign sessions. If you are a new player, I will gladly schedule a time with you to go over character creation and answer any questions you have about the game and the campaign you signed up for.
