About Feni

Hi, I'm Feni! I've been running games with friends for around 10 years now, and in that time I've learned several different systems: D&D 5e, Cyberpunk 2020, Delta Green, Cypher System, Shadowrun, Vampire: the Masquerade, GURPS, and more. I'm hoping to find more people to play games with and love telling stories, particularly drawing in mystery, moral choice, and seeing how long the story thread stays together before my players completely derail everything. I'm a big fan of improv at my tables, and highly encourage all of my players to think outside the box and live by the "rule of cool". If a semi-serious, people-driven narrative with episodes of absurdist humor is your type of game, I'd love to have you at my table!

I got started GMing...

Two or three sessions after I got into 5e, back in 2015, I was willing to give DMing a try and I ran my first game on an off week where the main game wasn't being run. After that first taste I never stopped.

My favorite system of all Time is

Cyberpunk 2020, hands down. I love fantasy, but experiencing Night City for the first time was a session I will never forget. The neon glam and fighting a losing battle against megacorps, it drew me in and showed me a world outside of D&D.

How Feni runs games

I have a hybrid roleplay/number crunch style developed over my time as a Game Master. I will always encourage good roleplay and improv, but I also greatly enjoy giving my players a large amount of mechanics that they can use to build their characters and interact with the game world. I've found that this pushes players to really dig into what their PC can do with their stats without dice, while also helping them immerse themself in the game world. That being said, I do my best to avoid rolling dice. If a PC is built to be specifically good at a particular non-combat skill, I'll often not require a dice roll to attempt it if the difficulty isn't that high. I want to encourage specialization and teamwork within the party to make up for where another member lacks, and for my players to feel like their the ones controlling the story, not a random number generator.

I once ran a session...

My first ever Cyberpunk 2020 game was derailed from the start when my players decided to align with the one-off gang they were sent to fight and I had to do a complete rewrite of the campaign's story. Ended up being the campaign I remember the fondest.

Feni's ideal table

Note taking is priority number one! My stories are character driven with plenty of interpersonal connections and Proper Nouns, so remembering who is who and what is what is important to engage as a player. I will also heavily load my players with custom items and abilities to give them the tools to fight the impossible situations I put them in, so combos and thinking outside the box is the key to survival. In-between the stress and mechanics, I love to feature role-play heavy segments, fueling player desire to be in the world and attempt to mold it in the way their characters want. After all, if the player doesn't feel connected to the NPCs and the setting, they don't have the motivation to use all of the cool stuff I give them.
