About Dusk

Welcome to my table! Pull up a chair. What'll your game be? Chance, perhaps? Skill? You look like an adventurous sort, so I'm going to guess you're here for a game of ... dice. Or maybe it's the story that you're after. I've got many of those. If you've got the time, of course. Stories about spies and explorers, pirates and thieves. Stories about lairs of liches, dens of dragons, and castles of kings. But, might it be that you're the one with the story to share? Be careful. I might steal it and add it to my collection! This here is my tavern. It's a simple sort. My usual clientele aren't much for comfy seats or fine wine. More often than not they're here for a little theatre and a little discord, and that's about it. You'll find that artwork does not survive long on my walls. And yes, of course we have fights here. It's a tavern, isn't it? So, why do I do what I do? Because I love it. Seriously though. I didn't start out as a tavern keeper. Had to earn my way up, advance up the ladder, so to speak. Are there better taverns and tavern keepers out there? Of course! But I like my little tavern. And besides ... something brought you here, didn't it? Well don't just stand there. Have a seat!

How Dusk runs games

I like to work with the players to tell a memorable story, filled with twists and turns and reoccurring allies and villains. I keep things very streamlined as I rely heavily on description to carry scenes. I don't use D&D beyond and I try to keep things basic for players. I use: - the honor system for dice rolling - standard stat generation as presented in the resource books - theatre of the mind in 99% of the gameplay, with maps or pictures only if I'm feeling generous - rule of cool especially when working with newer players or if I can't make a ruling in time to preserve the game's flow - Discord for carrying out gameplay, video and voice optional but always encouraged One thing I do is I craft the character with the player, and I record everything so that both I and the player have access to everything personally. This is a relatively new practice for me but it helps me Yes, I know this is a D&D Beyond thing, but because I don't use it and yet many players are familiar with it, I try to recreate the same thing. So expect much discourse with me in between leveling up sessions!
