About Robert DMRMZ

I am the Game Master, and for over 40 years, I've had the privilege of crafting tales that have enthralled players from the very beginnings of Basic D&D to the realms of superheroic fantasy. I've journeyed through the infinite planes of D&D 2e Planescape, where cosmic adventures unfolded in the blink of an eye. I've explored the technology-driven world of Robotech, piloting Vertech mecha through pulse-pounding battles. But my storytelling ventures didn't end there. I've dived into the hum of lightsabers, immersing players in the thrilling universe of epic space sagas. I've witnessed the countless flavors of Dungeons & Dragons, from the realms of high fantasy to the grittier corners of the imagination. And seamlessly, I transitioned into the vast tapestry of Pathfinder, where new tales awaited eager adventurers. Each world I've brought to life is a magnificent mosaic of heart-pounding encounters, moments that tug at the soul, and exhilarating cliffhangers that leave players yearning for more. In my grasp, characters transform into living beings, and players find themselves lost in stories overflowing with pure, unadulterated fun. So come, and join me on this extraordinary journey. Let us explore the vast landscapes of the imagination together, where the boundaries of reality fade away, and the vast expanse of possibility stretches before us. Brace yourself for an adventure like no other, for in my hands, stories unfold, heroes rise, and the power of imagination knows no limits. Together, we'll create moments that will echo through the ages.

I got started GMing...

My older brother brought home the D&D Basic guide; he was 15, and I was 11. His friends let me play once. Two months later, I was running him and his friends in games. Before I knew it, I was 12 and DM'ing 20-year-olds every weekend after they got done at work.

My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be

D&D 3.5, Starware FFA, and PF2e

When I'm not running games I'm...

Designing computer systems and tweaking my own servers .. I am a technophile.

How Robert DMRMZ runs games

Once upon a time in a realm of fantasy and adventure, a group of daring adventurers gathered together under the guidance of a wise and imaginative Game Master named DMRMZ. His voice echoed with excitement and emotion, captivating the players and drawing them into a world of limitless possibilities. In my realms, the campaigns were not just ordinary quests. They were epic sagas filled with high-stakes challenges and thrilling encounters that pushed the players' abilities to the limit. But here's the twist: I offered an intriguing proposition to the players. If they dared to venture beyond the confines of the 20th level, alternate rules would come into play, unleashing even more extraordinary adventures and tests of their prowess. To ensure fairness and clarity in their journey, I have established a vibrant Discord community. Within this virtual haven, players could discuss and seek clarifications on loopholes in the rules. Every player had an equal say, and I believe in the power of democracy. They would vote together on crucial rulings, fostering camaraderie and collaboration among the adventurers. My games blend role-playing and dice-rolling. Players, I hope, immerse themselves in rich character development in their wondrous expeditions, breathing life into their chosen personas. But amidst the deep emotional connections and intriguing narratives, the thrill of rolling the dice and embracing chance remained integral to the adventure. Depending on the game and number of players, I have used either Roll20 or Foundry VTT as the virtual tabletop, with a decade of experience across various platforms, not to create a computer game, but to enable imagination. And so, the tales spun and echoed far and wide, attracting adventurers from every corner of the realm. Each session was a 50/50 balance between immersing themselves in character-driven stories and engaging in tactical battles, ensuring no moment felt mundane or predictable.

I deal with rules issues by...

In my game, I will allow 5 minutes for discussion. If it is complicated and takes more than 5, we move the discussion to the Discord channel, and I make a temporary ruling so the game can flow. It's more important to play than debate.

I prep by

I am a music guy. I have a playlist that spans 10K iTunes listings: Classical, Rock, Rap, and Death Metal. I know the story ahead, so I play them on shuffle, and one will give me a vibe for the session that I carry through my storytelling —not the lyrics, but the feeling.

Rules are...

Always filled with gaps, we resolve them as a group to make it easier for my players and the monsters.

Robert DMRMZ's ideal table

My table is all about immersive storytelling and character-driven roleplay. I love players who really know their characters, what makes them tick, what scares them, and what keeps them pushing forward. Rolling dice is easy. Living and breathing your character? That’s where the magic happens. The vibe is collaborative, cinematic, and story-focused. I want the table to feel like you’re all part of an epic series full of tension, heroics, and heartfelt moments. Every player’s choices matter, and every character has a place in shaping how the story unfolds. If you’re the kind of player who: Brings your character to life and wants to see them grow, loves connecting with others in character and building shared stories, appreciates a mix of laughs, drama, and wild “did that just happen?” moments... Then you’ll fit right in. At my table, it’s not just about winning fights, it’s about creating legends together.

I love it when a player

They are passionate and creative, taking a situation and seeing if creativity can bend the rules using fantasy logic.

I think min/maxing...

While min-maxing can be great in games built purely around combat or tactical efficiency, my games take a different approach. Here, success isn’t always about hitting the hardest or rolling the highest damage; it’s about influence, clever thinking, and creative problem-solving.

My table is not the place for...

Bullying and hate of any kind!
