About me

I've been playing and running Chaosium's Call of Cthulhu since it began in 1981. I've run my own adventures as well as the many awesome published scenarios. I'm a big Lovecraft geek basically! Most of the time I've run classic Call of Cthulhu set in New England in the 1920s. However, I'm very open to running CoC in other eras - Cthulhu exists in the past, present and future after all! I have two principles I follow: 1. People have told me they played CoC once and everyone went mad and died. This doesn't sound like fun. I want to challenge players, but I want them to win in the end. So I calibrate the threat to the players accordingly. 2. I like to emphasis character role playing and mystery solving. There will be plenty of action! But CoC adventures are essentially mysteries - be prepared to use your brain! I also like to give the characters strong motivation. Sure, your Private Detective character wants to find the missing person to get paid - but what if the missing person is also someone close to you?

GM Style

I am definitely on the side of character interaction over combat. I also like to give characters deep motivation. If the PC is a Private Detective, then I'll make the missing person case about someone they know. If a monster is menacing the village, I'll have one of the kids in the village do something endearing in front of the characters. I still want some action - if the players have real stakes involved, I think it makes the action much more meaningful.
