About me

Adventure! Suspense! Romance? I've been running games professionally since 2017, with a focus on cartoonish shenanigans with a lot of heart. I love trying new indie systems, although my bread and butter are Cypher System and Under the Neighborhood (a game I designed myself)! If you want to try something new and whimsical, with plenty of help for newcomers, give one of my games a shot. If you're curious about what a game run by me will be like, you can check out the podcast "Quest Friends!" for a sample of my GMing style.

GM Style

I'm a roleplay and improv-heavy GM who prioritizes what is most fun in the moment. I believe that mechanics and rules are important for good play, and I'm very hands-on in teaching new players how to use them, but I view these rules as a means for encouraging roleplay above all else. A game run by me will have expressive NPCs, story beats catered to your characters, and action that feels tense (even if it isn't actually that mechanically harrowing).

What can I say about Kyle? Well, for a player who had lost all hope of ever playing a TTRPG ever again, I cannot thank Kyle enough nor give him any amount of gratitude that will show the sheer magnitude of how his simple gesture to invite me to one of his games filled my heart with joy and creativity for TTRPGs again. With that out of the way, I can tell you that Kyle is a master of thinking on his feet! I have heard, watched, and witnessed the most RANDOM shenanigans thrown at this GM and he rolls with it, dashing a small spritz of his own creative flair on top, making the game explosively more fun! Kyle also brings his NPCs to life, doing amazing voices that will be recognizable in an instant, to the point where you hear the voice and know who you’re speaking to without clarification! As a person with role playing and social insecurities, I can assure you that you will never have to fear coming forward and speaking to Kyle about your feelings about the game or your own character. He will always listen and give you a hand to find yourself within your character or help you achieve the direction you wish to grow! Not only that, but he will ALWAYS listen to your concerns! Nothing is more important than his players having a great time and being comfortable at the table, and just being in each other’s company! That being said, Kyle also isn’t one to be afraid of getting his hands a little dirty either! I have witnessed some interesting moments, creatures, and monsters come out of his head! If anything, Kyle is a great teacher for beginners, and also patient with those who have difficulty adjusting to the mechanics of a game! Kyle definitely will know the rules going into a game, but is willing to be a little flexible and bend a rule or two in the name of creativity and fun! No player is ever left feeling ignored with this GM, no imagination is vacant when playing with this GM, and no character will ever make it out of a story without some sort of growth or development with this GM! Because at the end of the session, everyone at the table will have a new group that you can’t help but call your friends!

One of my favorite things about Kyle's GMing style is that he make a real effort to understand the players and their characters and introduces ways to engage and challenge them on a deeper level; in general his games are very character-focused (at least in the groups I have played with where that's been our priority) rather than heavy on lore and mechanics. That's not to say that he doesn't build a fun and engaging world to play in or create awesome stories, I just especially appreciate the space he creates to explore our characters and their stories within the world. He's also very clear and patient with helping players understand rules. Another thing I appreciate is that Kyle uses classic safety tools like lines and veils which always serve to help me feel more comfortable at a table. If you're struggling to decide on a system, I would recommend having him run Under the Neighborhood; it's a super fun game system that's very flexible to different stories.

Kyle!! I've been playing games with him for like 5 years, maybe more!! And there's a reason it's been such a long time--I have literally never not had fun. I can't decide if his one-shots or long-term campaigns are better: the one-shots are so funny and weird and unique, but the long-term campaigns are really impressively constructed with extremely good payoffs, even when he has to change a climactic event or a twist mid-story. There have been many, many times he's altered a big story moment he had planned because we as the players ruined it--er, did something that necessitated a change. Since he is very good at responding to player choices and he's always working WITH you, anything you accidentally change due to your choices or repeated failures really does just end up better. And if you ever want to stretch the rules for funsies, he knows exactly when to let that happen :). Also his Vincent Price impression is killer, in case you didn't know you wanted that.

Kyle is a master of taking little details and bringing them back as either jaw-dropping revelations or as sweet callbacks. His tone is fairly lighthearted and he leans into the bizarre. Choose him if you want a fun and funny game of shenanigans.

Kyle is awesome! He’s a great storyteller and does awesome voices and world building. He works hard to make sure players feel comfortable at the table, and that their characters have their own moments to shine.
