About DarkVoid

I've been a GM for 20 years. I started when I was young and quickly became a GM for anyone who would play. Magical swords and blasters lay all around. Undead and droids march on. With some luck, you'll live to see another sunrise. Dungeons, spacecraft, and the wastes of a nuclear desert, I enjoy GMing fantasy and science fiction. I have a background in theatre and creative writing. You can expect the world to react to your actions believably and a gripping story centered on your character and their actions. I use Fantasy Grounds Unity for the majority of my games. A full suite of tools for automation and allowing fast play. And if we are missing a feature I also have experience coding in Lua and XML, the languages of FGU.

I became a GM because

I was filled with fantasy stories I wanted to tell. Then I found the joy of a shared story while playing with others is better.

How DarkVoid runs games

I'm very adaptable. I lean into how the party behaves/acts/wants and give them the moments they will remember for the rest of their lives. Giving players the opportunity to make exciting and meaningful decisions is a top priority. Consistency is essential, and I believe 'GM rulings over rules' does make gameplay fast and fluid. Storytelling comes from the players' actions, not necessarily the GM reading off pre-written material. Even with pre-written modules, your party creates a unique story through dice rolls, decisions, and how your party plays together. I do believe the greatest roleplaying comes from players talking to other players. NPCs come and go, but the other players will be with you for a long time. Combat should be approached like a puzzle with multiple solutions. Death is always on the table, and deciding that running into the dragon's lair without a plan will likely end in death. At that point, if the surviving members drag out their comrades' bodies, then that will be the win!
