About Gavin Clarkson

Hello! I have been playing D&D 5e since it was released, and have loved Tabletop RPGs since I was even six years old. I've had ups and downs with my sessions in the past, but each time I ran a campaign I learned something new. My last two campaigns have done great, each of which lasted two years, and one of which is still ongoing. I have lots of experience with creating TTRPG systems as well as homebrew for D&D 5e. Most of my experience as a dungeon master extends to D&D 5e, though I have also dabbled in other TTRPG systems, especially Pokémon systems such as PTU and a system of my own creation. I build games to be relatively serious and heavily plot-driven. I introduce some sandbox elements to my games; however, the best aspect of the stories I build is how I find ways to weave each character's story into each event of the campaigns I run. I also have some experience writing stories on my own which I use to create themes that permeate each campaign and story.

How Gavin Clarkson runs games

I am quite familiar with the rules of D&D 5e, and my games allow for player creativity and saftey. I also like to play music during my sessions to establish a tone and mood. I pride myself in my storytelling and my ability to build a world that enhances the story of each character. From my games, you can expect a somewhat high difficulty of combat meant to raise the stakes and encourage creative and rewarding battles, and a good balance of combat and roleplay. Training and self-improvement are key themes in all of my campaigns, as well, meaning that downtime is sure to be important. Most Non-Player Characters(NPC)s will be introduced when necessary or when sought out, and the role they play in the story will be heavily dependent on how much you and your party choose to rely on them. About half of my prep time is spent fleshing out the stories and personalities of NPCs that my players meet. That said, I tend to lean towards limiting the number of important NPCs in the party at any given time, as they can take away from important Player Character screentime. The tone of my campaigns is more serious, with a hint of realism and a good deal of lighthearted fun between characters and NPCs. Some days may be ones fraught with danger, but others may be slow and relaxing as you prepare for the future.
