About me

Hi there! My name is Miss Haruka, and I've been in the TTRPG space for almost 15 years at this point! I started with 3rd edition D&D, then went on to play in a long-running 3.5 campaign that allowed me to observe both the good and bad of DMing. My first DMing experience cam in running playtest modules for what became 4e, and then a full 4e campaign at my local university for multiple years for anywhere between 5-9 players at a time (boy were those combat sessions LONG!). Since then, I've DMed off and on for various groups, and played a few other systems such as Pathfinder and Shadowrun 5e. Most recently, I ran a series of one-shots using the "Journeys through the Radiant Citadel" source book, as well as tried to "fix" Tyranny of Dragons for a newer playgroup. I am definitely more comfortable using a module as the foundation for a campaign, but have experience drafting homebrew campaigns, though not homebrew content. I look forward to playing with you!

GM Style

I think of being a DM as being the firmware on a computer. The game itself is the software, the method of play (VTT, tabletop minis and dice, etc) is the hardware, and the players the user. The players communicate their wants, needs, and limits up front, and I make sure their input reflects in what the game provides them, as well as constantly patching the process as more information is given by the players. Some tables want all of the combat all the time, some want more narrative driven talky gameplay, and it's my job to pick out what those desires are and try to balance them all at once. All I ask of players is to be open with what they are looking for, and be understanding that sometimes I'll need to balance their wants with the other party members to ensure everyone has a great time. I'm not here to tell a specific story or self-insert, I'm just here to help them write their tale together, whatever that may be! My personal taste is roleplay and narrative focused, with puzzles, character moments, and choices-matter decisions used heavily. Combat is great and will definitely come up, but if you burn down the village all the time, it won't be long until you become the BBEGs in another campaign!
