About Vin

Hello there. You can call me Vin. I'd love to GM a game for you and make a story centered on your character! I've been playing and GMing ttrpgs for many years now. Since I was a kid, I've always loved creating epic stories with a group of friends. I used to GM a lot of Dungeon World and really enjoyed playing the many "Powered by the Apocalypse" games. I love fiction first systems and the stories they allow us to co-create. Nowadays I'm enjoying the "Forged in the Dark" games. I tend to prefer fantasy settings inspired by the Silmarillion or the Stormlight Archives but I also enjoy settings inspired by warhammer 40k, post-apocalytic weird west, or futuristic mechas. The campaigns I run tend to be more upbeat and lighthearted punctuated by tragedy and darkness with stakes that start small and ramp up slowly. If the campaign goes on for a long time things eventually end up going epic. High stakes action, drama, treachery, dancing at the inn to the bard's tune, exploring mysterious netherdepths, a deep conversation between PCs and NPCs in character are all things that come up in my games. Not all my games are like that but that's where I gravitate without player's feedback. My scheduling is very flexible as long as I have 2 weeks notice. So feel free to contact me if you're interested in different times. I can understand and speak most latin based languages at varying degrees of proficiency. If you're interested in using an RPG to learn or practice English feel free to message me. Session 0 and the first session always free so you can see if the campaign and the group are the right fit for you!

How Vin runs games

-Voice acting and in character dialogue with NPCs/Villains. My camera will be on and I'll often be acting out monsters with gestures and sound effects. -Challenging dilemmas and consequences for your actions be it good or bad. -Mechanics to encourage roleplaying between the PCs and form fun dynamics between them. -Epic combat with tremendous narrative freedom - If it makes sense logically and narratively that your character could do something we'll find a way for them to do it! -Tactically sound combat despite being fiction first. If you set up the perfect ambush or battle strategy even though your character lacks the appropriate feat we'll find a way to give you a mechanical advantage if the game system lacks one. -Sessions that flow well. If it can be dealt with after the session in the discord we'll do that. Rules debate/discussion will be postponed and we'll handwave in favor of the player to keep the pacing of the session. -New players welcomed. The fiction first games I run are easy to learn - you basically just need to narrate what you want your character to do and we'll help you through the rest. -Laughter and fun! We'll do stars and wishes after each session so that way I can keep tailoring the campaign to what's fun for the group. -Video encouraged but optional - I GM much better when I can see the players but realize not everyone is comfortable with video. -Lines and Veils and X-card safety tools.

Vin's ideal table

I get have the most fun at tables where immersion is maintained as much as possible. So when players try to stay in character most of the time and even do planning in character. I also enjoy GMing tables where the players create characters that have some element that makes them narratively compelling. So perhaps they have 2 goals that may or may not always be aligned forcing dramatic decisions, or maybe they have 1 strong goal and some type of weakness/limitation that they most overcome to progress. The GM can provide external conflict but it's up to players to develop internal conflict which is one of the most compelling parts of a story. I also enjoy when players actively take interest in the other players characters and try to engage with them. A fun interparty dynamic that grows/changes as the characters grow and change is always very fun for me both as a GM and player.

I love it when a player

Is willing to make a backstory, is willing to make a character that has some type of flaw or weakness, writes a character that has some type of goal, makes a character that has a reason to engage with the other player characters and is willing to have scenes of interparty Dialogue,

I think it's a red flag when players...

Rarely want to speak in character with the other players and take little to no interest in the other player's characters. Tell the other players what to do or criticize their character's decisions. Constantly break immersion through out of character jokes/discussion. Occasionally is fine.
