About Elise
Hi, I'm Yul, though the list of nicknames that I have is far from being short. So, after we meet, you can call me as you see fit. I'm a writer, I've been putting words together in a very passionate way since I've got memory. It is for that reason that I love telling stories. Showing my work to others is an intrinsic part of it. This is because, in the process of interpretation, new worlds begin to appear, worlds that I was incapable of seeing for myself. A story can grow far bigger as each one gives it their twist, as it becomes a part of them in a sort of way. I've been playing TTRPGs and GMing for the best part of 5 years. Since I started, my objective has been to create collaborative stories that, though chaotic at times (sometimes all the time), can be a part of us. I work a lot in the worlds I create for my campaigns, be it places, like a city or a cave, or NPC. They may not generate the expected impression, but, for me, stories go like that. They change with everyone's input, especially when roleplaying, and that's lovely. I want my players to feel like they are an active part of the story we are creating.

I got started GMing...
Because we need a GM for our first game. Honestly, I don't remember that well if at that moment I was excited to be the one directing the game. However, session after session, experience and stories combined showed me that I was in for a treat if I kept going this way. GMing became my passion.
When I'm not running games I'm...
Probably working. Yes, boring. On the rare occasion I do get time off, I write, read or draw. I consider myself good only in the first of the listed. I'm now putting my mind into creating my own TTRPG system. I bit wishful, you may say. You wouldn't be wrong, but that isn't going to stop me.
How Elise runs games
I usually run sandboxes, though I've run more strict games. I try to give as much freedom as I can to my players, working in developing situations as a result of their decisions, and not as a predetermined outcome. However, I give some roads as options, so if you are not exactly in a creative mood, you have something to help your imagination. After all, players are full of creativity and imagination, far more than some may give them credit for. In this way, I allow my players to let their ideas run fully in the game, using my knowledge as a GM to give them the support they need to keep afloat with the world that is already in place. I value roleplay over tactical combat, but that doesn't mean that my games are just roleplaying. I love the extent on which some systems can go about with their combat mechanics, and even though I may not exploit it fully as someone that is combat centered, I do my best. I think that challenging encounters do a lot of lifting in the development of a character. Do you try to heal your friends or take the risk of going for the hit? That simple question can go a long way. After the battle, the other members of the party may question your abilities in supporting them, or they may be glad for your decision. These are only a pair of examples. The possibilities are far from few. For me, combat, exploration and roleplay are, undoubtedly, a way in which you show how your character behaves, which is where I put my focus as GM.

I think min/maxing...
Takes away some of the possibilities of character creation. In my opinion, characters work around their flaws, which may be part of their "builds". Nontheless, I've once got a player that was trying to min/maxing their character, but worked marveously around the personality flaws they had.
