About Afroakuma
I've had a fascination for D&D and its strange lore and worlds for a quarter century, and with all things nerdy and marvelously geeky for longer still. A proud forever DM, I have a great love of worldbuilding and enjoy stories ranging from classic pulp adventure to philosophical explorations across the planes of existence. My games and worlds run the gamut; grounded low-level brutality where goblins and orcs are mighty threats for the unprepared, heroic fantasy with legendary monsters to fell and ruins to plunder, and of course through the boundless trippy weirdness of Spelljammer and Planescape, the setting with which I am most associated.

How Afroakuma runs games
Rules are tools, and anyone trying to tell me their particular character build makes them an unkillable god is going to have a poor time in my game. I like to enable players to do things, try things, and improvise. I run living worlds, and I'm a major proponent of homebrew. While I am not a merciless player killer, I don't pull punches and decisions have consequences. I want you to have agency, to be a figure capable of making a difference within the fantasy world. That agency may take the form of heroic actions that raise or topple kingdoms; it also can result in character death. I believe the game is meant to be a conversation between DM and players, that my role is to facilitate our collective enjoyment of the experience, and that we can be mature adults and discuss thing that aren't working if they should arise. I like crunch and fluff, I like tactics and roleplay; I enjoy improvisation, and I don't often place puzzles that have only one solution. Most importantly, I want to give you things to care about - NPCs worthy of your concern and protection, colorful villains to hate, worlds to save. You might not have moral certitude on your side all the time, but you will have the confidence that your decisions make an impact.
