About me
I am Jeffrey! I was introduced to TTRPGs through DND 5e during the pandemic and became a little bit obsessed. Within 4 months I was running a completely homebrewed roll20 game and the rest is history. For me, TTRPGs are a unique medium for experiences you cannot have any other way. It is a level of autonomy that no book or videogame can match. It is more than storytelling or acting. You are gambling with stories that your friends will tell for years to come. Almost all games I have run included brand-new players, so I consider that something of a specialty. All games should be accessible and welcoming because community is the bedrock of the table. Everyone needs to have trust in everyone else, to be safe, to be a scene partner, and to bring the snacks. I am a former engineer and recent MBA graduate. I consider myself a creative. I am fairly well read and can draw inspiration (thematic or mechanic) from things we have in common. I cannot wait to start playing games with you. I am most experienced with the base DND 5e, but I have run many of the Grantt Hewitt systems and I am actively learning DND 2024 and Daggerheart.
GM Style
In order, it is most important that my table is 1) safe, 2) fun, 3) telling a great story found nowhere else. I believe that the players are the storytellers far more than the GM. For me, TTRPGs are about improv, storytelling, and community. My goal is to create experiences for players that they cannot find in any form of media outside of playing TTRPGs. I usually run about 1/4 of games as puzzles and tactical combat, but these are primarily toys for the players to tell their stories, diversify the experiences at the table, and keep things lively. TTRPGs will never be better at combat or puzzle experiences than videogames. Players can play Baldur's gate cooperatively and they do not need me to do it. I want players to feel that every game at my table is something unique to the TTRPG medium. My table is highly inventive. I mostly run homebrew settings, which allow for more player authorship in my experience. I create my own puzzles and monsters, often from character backstories. I ask the players to take narrative control whenever it makes sense. This is jazz. I promise that you won't experience my games with ChatGPT as a GM. Most of all, my table is adaptive to my players - centered on them. My pre-session 0 prep includes a quiz of different types of players and a discussion about what kind of game we should play. From pure exploration to immersive roleplay, mystery sleuthing to just chilling with friends, I am confident we will all have fun.
