About Hazel

Hello! My name's Hazel. I'm 23 years old, and I've spent nearly 12 years roleplaying across different venues before falling in love with Dungeons and Dragons six years ago. I've played in many games--homebrew worlds, pre-set modules, and as of last year I began DMing on my own. I value narrative and player roleplay over all else, encouraging my parties to connect with one another and form long-lasting bonds in as many ways as I can manage. I want my players to feel like the main characters of their stories, because they are actively writing it alongside me--though that is not to say that there are not proper consequences. In every campaign, I strive to breathe life into the setting, to make NPCs feel like real people, not quest givers. Do you like to spend hours cultivating a glorious backstory? That's perfect, I'd love to read it. Do you prefer to make a character and see how the story develops from there? Awesome, I just hope you're okay with me throwing curveballs your way. :)

I became a GM because

I have always, for as long as memory permits, been an avid storyteller, and few things kindle more joy for me than presenting a story to a group of people for no other reason than strictly to be enjoyed.

My favorite shows/movies are

Oh.. gee.. Well, I'd have to say my favorite show is a toss-up of /several/ that I cannot bear to choose between. I've loved--for a long time--Steven Universe, Adventure Time, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, and last but NOT least, Glee. All of which I have very nostalgic memories of watching.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Either spending time with my loving boyfriend, playing with my sweet dog, playing video games with friends, or any mixture of the above!

How Hazel runs games

My games tend to lean in the 70/30 roleplay/combat ratio. I try to focus more heavily on the actions of players and how they've interacted with the game world and various NPC's. My goal is to always make sure players leave the table feeling like they've just stepped away from reading a gripping book. I will always default to the rulebook if there is a pre-existing law, but I am at the end of the day completely willing and able to make my own rules in favor of the narrative. If you want to do something exciting, and can reasonably justify it, then it falls to me to make that happen.

My favorite trope is...

Healers who aren't able to save the person who means the most to them. It's always been such a gut-wrenching sucker-punch to the emotions.

Rules are...

Rules are guidelines, always and forever! It is the DM's job to interpret them in such a way that it allows their players to do what makes them happy--to let them pull off their crazy, memorable hijinks that they'll talk about for months, or years.
