About me

I have been a dungeon master for nearly two decades and the reason I wanted to start is the reason I continue to do it today, It's fun. I am a dungeon master who loves having random/powerful/funny things thrown my way. I have always found the fun part of playing and running games (mainly DND) not 100% knowing what's coming next. I love it when players feel empowered to just run with crazy ideas or to do something they think will make a fun story. I truly believe in the rule of cool and think that nothing should get in the way of a good story. The storytelling element of TTRPGs is what makes the unique but I do not lose the fact that we are playing a game together. I have run long-term campaigns in a 100% homebrew world, iv ran various modules and shorter content. Iv ran Horror, Survival, Epic Adventure, and just plain silly games. Nothing is more important than everyone at the table having fun, I will never apologise for bending or ignoring a rule to facilitate that. The wonderful thing about TTRPGs is coming together and having a great time playing the game that will tell a great story! Hope to see you at one of my games real soon!

GM Style

As a GM I always aim to just bring fun, whacky and cool moments to the table. I like to prep with a player and come up with fun encounters and story arcs around the types of things they want to see play out. I like to paint scenes with major details but leave finer narration to render and develop with my table. I will implement the rule of cool when I think the rules are getting in the way of something fun. While I adore the storytelling element of the games I play I always remain focused on it being a game. If I feel that players are being isolated in a moment I always look to get them involved. I thoroughly believe in everyone getting good spotlight time and telling their story within the game. I tend to try and balance my games, having frequently run for different preferences, with traps/puzzles/combat and roleplay, a healthy balance of all.

I'm not too great at writing reviews but I'll do my best here because Scott is a class act and deserves recognition. To start off I'm very particular about DMs I enjoy, perhaps too picky but I value my time and no D&D is better than bad D&D. Scott's games, however, damn good D&D. Scott himself is a great guy, super friendly, like someone you met at a cozy pub and got to chatting with and now you meet every weekend as the best part of your week. Very outgoing, mannered, loves to joke and brings a welcoming and cozy atmosphere to the table. To the game itself, Scott runs what I consider the perfect kind of D&D game. A story with stakes, seriousness but plenty of time for levity and jokes to bring about character and party building without any aspect becoming to dull or overplayed. He runs the game fair, giving everyone their time in the light and making sure everyone is getting some kind of engagement, even those who are a bit more timid or softspoken. He does run some tough combat but that is a bonus for me, he plays the monsters and adversaries like they want to survive, like they would in real life and it makes for fun and engaging combat. Scott also does his best to conform to whatever party style you have-light on healers, no worries, find some extra health potions as a baseline example. All in all I'd call Scott as close to a perfect DM for people who like the whole gambit of D&D-combat, RP and exploration. For people who want a comfortable atmosphere like you're playing with friends at your own real life table and a game run with knowledge, respect for the game and the world and just pure fun, Scott is the DM for you hands down.

Kalren was an excellent game master, setting the stage for a great campaign in a few important ways. First, he made sure to host a group session 0 gathering where we talked about what motivated us and hashed out backgrounds and the world and the like. Second, his storytelling was excellent and thematic and the voices were funny. Finally, he was always looking for feedback on how to improve the game for everyone. Would definitely play in one of his games again.

Played the new dagger heart role-playing game and it was outstanding, the game wasn't only well written the combat and flow of the game just feels very natural and all of that is just brought together when you get a dungeon master like Kalren he went above and beyond to make everyone feel comfortable at the table and ran the game in such a way it didn't feel like a game it felt like I was experiencing it first hand with the sounds and ambience to the amazing voices and creativity. I would highly recommend him to any who asked for a dm who really cares about how enjoyable the players experience is and I can't think of anyone more deserving for winning the dagger heart set so he can make their first experience with the game as good as mine.

Any time gaming in a Kalren run game will prompt a fun time had by all. In creating scenes to worlds his experience and demonstrative prowess can only be equalled by his knowledge and understanding of the rules. Goes above and beyond to ensure all players feel included and seen. Can't praise enough.

Fantastic DM. Stumbled across him about a year and a half ago and as someone who has played DND almost weekly for going on 10 years now, I have never had more fun or looked forward to a game session more then I have with Kalren. Fantastic story teller, loves making your characters feel like they have an impact in the world, and is a "yes and" sort of DM.

Played with Kalren as our DM many times now, he’s an amazing and passionate DM with years of experience running TTRPG’s, loves the craft of story and world building, and spends a lot of extra times designing maps! Recently tried Daggerheart with Kalren running, and we had an amazing time! It was cool swinging a frog man into a wraith using the team attack mechanic!
