About me
Name's Vaal, I am from Portugal, and I have been DMing for over four years now, with over 5500+ hours (and counting) across multiple online platforms. I first got introduced to TTRPGs with a very casual invitation from a friend to play D&D 5E. Little did I know that this invitation would introduce me to my favorite type of game, a genre that would allow me to express my creativity and share it with fellow players, so that we could all become part of something truly magical. My GMing style is extremely adaptable, mostly by necessity, as the people I run games for have very different tastes in terms of what they enjoy within the spectrum of RP, combat and exploration. But I have reason to believe that I am fairly capable of creating a game that can satisfy the individual preferences of different players and touch upon every core aspect of the system, as I have done so before. How seriously I treat the rules is wholly dependant on what kind of game my players enjoy, but generally I tend to favour a "Rule of Cool"/RAI approach. Most of my decisions are in favour of the characters and the world, whilst making sure that my players are having fun within an environment that is inclusive, comfortable and prone to invoke the desire to participate proactively. And if something isn't working, I have no issue taking feedback in stride (when it's on the DM side of things) and/or working with players to see what can be done about it. If you're in one of my games, you're going to have a lot of fun either showcasing your cool character builds or enjoying narratives that favor a grounded story that will let them come to life within the context of the setting, with plenty of opportunities for silly hijinks. Overall, you'll be having a great time, and I certainly look forward to it.
GM Style
- Challenging: I will always look forward to crafting combat encounters, puzzles, and skill challenges that feel appropriately difficult without being mean-spirited and taking into consideration the preferences of my players. - Inclusive: I've DM'd for all sorts of lovely people, and I have zero patience for bigotry that isn't an organic part of a setting featured in my games. And on that topic, my players decide what content they want to see in those games. - Theatrical: I love Rule of Cool, I love roleplaying and love it even more when my players do it, so keeping them interested in and immersed in a world that not only feels real but also accounts for their choices is extremely important for me. How flexible or inflexible I am with the rules is largely dependant on what a module warrants, as well as what my players prefer. - Grounded: This might sound silly, considering how a lot of systems are designed around heroic fantasy, but even within that context, I want the players to engage with the possibilities and limitations of the worlds I bring to the table, and accept that sometimes you can't get everything you want, and that's ok. - No Bullshit: I am here to provide my players with the experience that they have paid for, and so I will be working with them to make sure that there is nothing souring that experience. I am a very tolerant person, so I will do my very best to adjust or work with them to solve any issue, but if something can't be fixed, then it has to be removed.
