About me

I watched the James Cameron film Avatar right when it came out, completely fell in love with the visuals and the way the world was portrayed and started GMing shortly after. I became more or less obsessed with running games and have had 14 years of experience to work at it and get better. I had a wonderful first experience with a supremely patient, kind, and considerate GM when I was learning to play my first TTRPG and that experience has influenced me to do the same. I want to host good experiences for my players regardless of if they have no games under their belts or hundreds under their belts. That is in many ways the two experiences I would place as the most important to my decision to start GMing and playing all those years ago. I now eagerly look forward to the next adventure and the next story I can tell with all of my players involved, and I truly adore making big epics that let everyone get a chance to shine!

GM Style

I as a GM tend to focus on massive narratives with sweeping, world changing scopes. I enjoy combat that trends towards smart fighting over brute force, but there are absolutely opportunities to rip and tear if you look for them! I enjoy running what I would consider "high power" games, wherein your characters will be made strong, but your foes shall be equally as fearsome, and they will fight intelligently and to the best of their skills as well! I focus on running games that are examples of collaborative storytelling, as a person I'm an enormous fan of those stories where a group of people fight tooth and bloody nail to change the world, be it for the better or worse. I like it when a victory is earned and worked hard for, be it a simple thing such as the culmination of downtime training, or something as grand as the deposition of a cruel and evil tyrant leader. I want everyone to have a safe, enjoyable time with my games and me, consent forms are given out and a session 0 is had with every group to set expectations early for the campaign. I will rerun that session 0 if it feels as though we've strayed from those early expectations. I use the lines and veils system within my game, where potentially distressing topics that would cross a players boundaries are referred to as "lines" that do not come up in the game at all, while veils are distressing topics that can be referred to "offscreen" in the game. Additionally, if at any time a player is uncomfortable with a scene, they can use one of the provided cards to stop that scene, wherein we'll talk about it if it's something they're ok with but only then. Or we will move past it, no questions asked, no judgement for that. Sometimes boundaries crop up when we least expect them to! I work with my players to make their characters interesting, active parts of my campaigns and my worlds, I vastly enjoy making my own worlds, and often run or create new ones to satisfy a campaign as I create it. I will craft grand plotlines involving your characters that you may not quite have known at the beginning, and am fond of subverting some expectations when it comes to backstories! I draw inspiration from a truly enormous repository of fantasy, science fiction, and general fiction (seriously my bookshelves bend under the weight of the texts.) So you can expect that to always have a role in my worlds! From a rules perspective, I often enjoy using homebrew content in my games and additionally use content from third party publishers such as Kobold Press, if you as a player want to run a homebrew idea by me for any of my games, let me know! I'll happily look it over with you!
