About me

I started playing fantasy roleplaying games with friends in high school and have never looked back! After over 30 years of playing and 20 years of running games, I want to give people that haven't experienced the fun and excitement of a good RPG session an opportunity to play. And as a teacher for many years, I enjoy helping new players play in a safe space where they can learn the game, whatever it may be. Even if you don't stay at my table, I hope you find happiness as I have over the years.

GM Style

As a GM I prioritize player experience over "rule dictating" with an emphasis on roleplaying and story elements. That said, yes, the games have rules and I do follow them and expect my players to as well. But, I will rarely let a rule get in the way of a good story. Sometimes I'll let a player re-roll something if the dice gods are being fickle. Sometimes, that just how it goes! I do voices to an extent, but try to express NPCs through manner of speaking, way they talk, or vocabulary. Not every NPC is fully fleshed out, but don't be surprised if that guy on the street corner you said "Hello" to earlier turns out to play a more major role later on! I do like good tactical combat, though this is often dictated by the game system we are using: systems like Pathfinder 2e lend themselves to more tactical play, whereas it is less critical in a system like D&D 5e. However, I am perfectly happy with granting a bonus if you "take cover behind x" or something that normally doesn't provide any benefits according to the system simply for a player thinking tactically about a situation. Broadly speaking, I like to reward players for thinking creatively. The same approach goes for skill use as well: if you can make a reasonable argument for this roll getting a bonus, then I will definitely consider it!
