About me

Hi all! My name is Alex (he/him) and I have been DMing 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons for coming up on 8 years now (yeesh). I started DMing on a lark in high school when a friend of mine approached me to run DnD so that he could get his RPG fix without having to replay Skyrim. We met in his basement with a couple of friends and ran a session with basically no preparation. I wrote down monster stats in a composition notebook as my players were fighting them. I'd like to think that I'm considerably more organized almost a decade later, but the atmosphere of a group of friends getting together to enjoy ourselves and maybe dismember a few skeletons is something that I strive for in every group I've run since. I try to keep my table as open as possible to all people, whoever they are. As far as I'm concerned, at the end of the day, we're all just people who want to play DnD. Gender, sex, race, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation will not come under fire by me, or any of my prospective players (that's you). I look forward to the chance to run your character in my campaign world and write a story together that we are both happy with. See you there!

GM Style

I'd say I run games that are about 75% roleplay, 25% combat. I have been running campaigns in a homebrewed world since my first session, and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. As such, I have no problem with homebrewed classes, races, feats or anything else as long as you run it by me first. My mentality as a DM and about DnD in general is that it's a storytelling game. I want to work with players to make the most enjoyable story possible. If that story includes player death or bad events, so be it. People die in real life, and bad things happen to them. I'm not going to actively try to kill your character, but I won't really pull punches either. I like to have players be on the powerful side, for my enjoyment and theirs. I would rather have strong character concepts that you comfortable roleplaying to some extent than an unhinged killing machine or a perfectly optimal combat build. I can balance combats appropriately, I can't run your character for you. I'm relatively willing to stretch rules for the benefit of the narrative or fun. That being said, I'm not going to pretend that I'm a perfect rule arbiter. If you think I've done something wrong, say so. I'll either take the opportunity to explain a house rule, or check what the correct way to run something is. Let's work together to play the best DnD possible.
