About Oliver

Hiya! My name is Oliver! I've been running and playing TTRPGs for over a decade, and I have a degree in Creative Writing. I specialize in running games with new players and bringing them into this hobby. I've been moving away from D&D and have had a hunger for exploring new systems like Vampire: The Masquerade, Kids on Brooms, Ryuutama, and more!

My favorite books are

The Discworld books by Terry Pratchett!! Mort is my favorite

My favorite system of all Time is

Storyteller Adventure System! It's what the classic World of Darkness games use. It's easy to learn and modulate from grounded, militant hunters to magical girls.

How Oliver runs games

I'm in the camp that this is a storytelling game and that everyone is working to make this the best story we can. Depending on the system, I may try my best to put a cap on how much combat there is, like adding a "Three Turn Rule".

Rules are...

meant to facilitate story. If they fail, we continue on with what we're doing without them, or until they are needed again.

When it comes to voices

Attitude over acting! Rather than give silly voices, I lean towards giving off a mood or a vibe, which can be a quicker indicator of who is speaking and is easier to slip into than a particular voice.

Oliver's ideal table

Games are meant to allow us to explore ourselves and indulge in things we normally couldn't. I really enjoy a table of people who know what they want or have a particular fantasy or trope they want to play out. Even if they are overplayed, players are always diverse enough to make interesting combinations of wants to tell a compelling story. I always encourage new players and veterans at my table and at least ask that everyone lean into the story, or at the very least whatever tropes the genre asks for.
