About Jacob

I have been in love with roleplaying games ever since my parents introduced them to me as a child. Crafting adventures with my brothers and parents are some of most cherished memories. I soon started GMing for my friends and have been playing tabletop RPGs for over 16 years. I hope to continue playing and creating new adventures for the rest of my life. I have experience playing in multiple game systems - Pathfinder 1st and 2nd Edition, Dungeons and Dragons Fifth Edition, Fate, and many homebrew systems. My games usually take the form of a 50/50 narrative and combat system with a focus on team based challenges and navigating social intrigue.

I got started GMing...

I began GMing when I was in high school, running the game system Dread for my friends. After that, I began running Pathfinder 1e campaigns for them that ranged from zany to downright psychotic.

My favorite books are

My favorite books are The Color of Magic, A Storm of Swords, and recently the Fifth Season. The Drizzt Do'Urden book series I read as a young boy ranks as my nostalgic favorite.

How Jacob runs games

I have experience playing in multiple game systems - Pathfinder 1st and 2nd Edition, Dungeons and Dragons Fifth Edition, Fate, and many homebrew systems. While I do have experience running those game systems, I am always looking to learn and run new ones as well. I tailor the game experiences to what the players want, but I usually try to achieve a balance of combat, exploration, and social interaction. Tone for the game depends on what the game intends, but I always love moments of brevity and humor. I love GMing fantasy settings, but have also played and GMed sci-fi and modern settings as well. I like to create both stories that the party can follow as a whole and personal side stories for individual characters as well. Interweaving those side stories into the main one can be difficult, but that is the fun in GMing.

Rules are...

Rules are important to create a framework for the story and characters to all attach to. Without a rules system, the narrative and characters can easily become separated by different expectations on how actions should resolve.

When it comes to voices

When it comes to voices I enjoy giving a unique voice to NPCs to help differentiate them from one another. Different voices also comes with different vocabulary and syntax.

Jacob's ideal table

I try to create an inclusive table where everyone can express themselves in a safe and fun environment. At the end of the day, tabletop roleplaying games are just that - games. Games are meant to be enjoyed and experienced with a group of people and to bring out cooperation, friendly competition, and camaraderie. I maintain a easy-going vibe at the table, not too serious but still trying to play and advance the game. Players are free to crack jokes or share stories, but the game is the primary focus.
