About me
Hello! My name is Jonathan (aka: "Cinematog") I am a career cinematographer and director of photography. I work within the film/ tv/ online broadcast industry. I consider myself an artist, technician, educator, and all-around creative producer. I am passionate about all things visual and auditory. I love to create and exist in immersive environments. I use my skills as a designer, writer, editor, creative storyteller, musician, and magician, and my background in film and critical theory, as well as my love of board games and Improv comedy, to combine into a cosmic gumbo that allows me to form into a unique Game Master. I've even given myself the humble and super impressive title of Professional Escape-Room Champion! (I also haven't escaped lots of times, but it is fun to just try things, right?) My fire for TTPRGs (and specifically DnD) was awoken by one of my best friend's old roommates, Brenden Lee Mulligan. Many years ago, As a fly on the wall, I was able to witness the culmination of one of Brenden's multi-year campaigns with his childhood friends. It was one of the most moving and amazing things I have ever witnessed. I'll never forget the experience I had in that room. It took a few years before the rest of the world realized what I had-- that Brenden is an absolute phenom of a DM! I also realized that day that TTRPGs (more specifically D&D) are limitless forms of entertainment. TTRPGs can be extremely powerful experiences for those who are lucky enough to play with good friends and good people. It appeared to be the most rewarding and collaborative form of storytelling and group play, outside of filmmaking that I had ever experienced. It allows the cultivation of deep friendship and shared personal growth while empowering each other through dynamic adventurous experiences and lessons learned. Brenden had revealed to me what a party of friends playing D&D "could be" and it was life-changing. I had fallen in love. Thats why I run DnD 5E games now! Because there is nothing like it, and it is just so much fun! Every day In my life I am inspired to share my passions and collaborate with others. I hope you will one day consider playing with me and helping support me and my passions. Let's Start playing! :) More Games! More Light! More Love! More Life! GM Style
My unique multifaceted approach to playing games, collaboration, and A/V technical artistry help to make my games a memorable and visceral aesthetic experience. I have built many game worlds, written numerous creative narratives, and created some original game systems. I am "new-ish" to running TTRPGs online as a DM. I specialize in Dnd 5e. I make no claims to "know it all", and in fact, I know I don't know it all. I do however know all about the "Rule of Cool" and I think it's the best rule! The one rule to rule them all! :P As a player and a GM, I tend to prefer theatre of the mind. I also like to use an abundance of audio and music while playing instead as opposed to visual aids. However, I do love visual aids, cool graphics and video, and making awesome maps! In person, the Lighting effects I use go hand in hand with the audio cues to create immersion effects in tone and ambiance without telling your mind how it should visualize. As a cinematographer by trade, the blending of sensory visual and auditory aids into TTPRG is an evolving frontier that I enjoy, explore, and experiment within, passionately. Currently: I am 17 sessions in on a 4PC in-person DnD5E CoS Campaign, where I use immersive A/V tech tools (Projection, Video Table board game, Professional Theatrical stage lighting, and Complex live immersive audio and music playback/ performance with custom hardware and software). Next up: (I am building a badass TMNT TTRPG game called: "TMNT: The Mutants Of The Ooze!" with lots of amazing A&V integration from the original cartoon and the first 2 theatrical feature films.) *Hoping to be able to playtest the TMNT game some time in 2025!
