About me

This is one of my favorite things to do! I can't imagine how different my life would be without D&D. I have a background in theater, and elements of performance are a part of my game hosting. I have been playing role-playing games since 1979 when I was first invited to play D&D in grade school in Connecticut. Within a year or two I had the BX version of the game and I never looked back. I switched off DM duties with others until I moved out west for a job in 1992, and that's when my DMing days began in earnest, originally as a way to make some new friends in an unfamiliar place. It worked, and I was soon running two games a week and playing in another. With very few breaks, I've been playing D&D or another RPG ever since. I have a degree in English and Theater and I've been fortunate enough to have been in many shows; all of that affects my writing and my performance as a DM. More than anything else, I develop worlds. As I create them, they start to come to life. However, it's when those worlds have some random elements and unforeseen choices introduced to them that they truly shine -- and that's where you come in.

GM style

I love role-play and tend to prioritize politics and intrigue, though I also love weaving it all together with your stories. When I ask for your background, it's because I'll be using it. That said, I usually play D&D 5e, and it is a game geared toward combat. I like options that let players circumvent combat, but sometimes it's unavoidable, and that's fun, too. Get ready for customized maps and partially automated combat that helps to speed us along. It is "we," truly. I do not look at any game as the DM vs. the players. I am helping you tell your story in a land that I am familiar with, familiar enough to know who loves you, who despises you, and who's just looking to rob you. We're in it together, from the diminutive lizardfolk guiding you through the swamp to the wyvern that swoops in for what it hopes is an easy kill. I never run a game against you, I just play the elements of the world around you. Some of those elements are hostile while others work with you and still others just want you to buy some fish. We're on the same side. You, me, and the woman selling pickled herring.
