About Celestine Nox

I'm a queer, neurodivergent, disabled storyteller who really enjoys the process of telling collaborative stories while still being focused on player safety. I'm also now part of Magpie Games' Corvid Collective of GMs! I'll be the right GM for you if: 🎭 - you enjoy RP or are looking to RP more; 📖 - you're focused on narrative, character moments, growth, and interpersonal drama over combat; 🗯 - you're fine with words like "shit," "damn," and "fuck" since I'm fine with them as long as a player isn't cursing at another player; 🎲 - if you want to start learning non-D&D ttrpg systems! 🌎 - and finally, if you enjoy worldbuilding. My homebrew setting, Bright City, currently has a multiverse, which you can visit this website to find out more about: https://sites.google.com/view/bright-city-lore/home I can't wait to play with you!

I got started GMing...

Like many people, I got started GMing during the height of the pandemic. First I just got into TTRPGs in general as a player, but it wasn't long before the desire to GM became too strong to deny!

I became a GM because

I love telling stories, and I love telling collaborative stories with other people. I'm always surprised by what my players do and I consider that the most fun part of GMing.

My favorite books are

The Kushiel's Legacy trilogy (Kushiel's Dart, Kushiel's Chosen, and Kushiel's Avatar) by Jacqueline Carey. They're not for everyone! But I love the beautiful prose and the expansive worldbuilding.

How Celestine Nox runs games

First things first, player safety is important to me and in general, so we will spend time discussing the safety tools I use in my games. Second things second, I prefer to focus on story and interpersonal drama over combat, though combat has been known to happen. I'm big on RP, not just between my NPCs and PCs, but between PCs as well and will encourage all players to do as much as possible in character. There will in general be very little combat and most of my villains have complex reasons for doing what they do and can be approached non-violently. Third things third, while I do my best to follow the rules of the game I'm running, I'm not a stickler for them and tend to err toward the side of what's most awesome in the moment. Rule of Cool. Also, even in darker games with more serious subject matter, don't worry if things get a little ridiculous. In my experience, a little bit of chaos just makes a game more fun!

Featured Prompts

My games focus on...

Interpersonal drama, story, mystery.

I once ran a session...

Where two of my players conspired to use their powers (Masks) to dump a bunch of ice down the bad guy's pants.

I prep by

Writing down a basic outline of what story beats I'd like to hit in the next session. Any more than that and I run up against the issue of what I expect versus what my players will actually do.

Celestine Nox's ideal table

My ideal table is filled with imaginative, collaborative players who are ready for some heavy RP, who want to be emotionally devastated, who are willing to walk into the dark with me to discover what lives there. I want to take emotional damage as a GM and I love players who also want to take emotional damage.

Featured Prompts

I love it when a player

Is willing and ready to take emotional damage as part of playing a TTRPG.

My table is not the place for...

People with Main Character Syndrome, who can't share the spotlight, cheaters, people who don't play to lift other players.

I think metagaming...

Is inevitable as people try to keep track of what they know as a player and what their character knows. As a player, I always try to ask when I'm not sure if my character knows something.
