About me

I started playing D&D with the red box in the mid 80's. Have played and DM'ed all editions except the white box (before my time). Lived through and experienced the Satanic Panic, first hand. I'm newer to the digital side of gaming, and new to professionally GM'ing strangers. I have basic competency with these new digital tools but require more time and experience to call myself a pro, and charge $20 a pop. I'm only charging a few bucks for now, so people will be at least a little invested, and take the game seriously. I'm old-school, so I don't always keep up with the changing culture, but I'm not afraid to change and grow as a person. I'm actually left leaning, but I won't push any political or moral agenda through the game on purpose. 🌈Everyone is welcome at my table.

GM style

The Rule of Cool: I used to do this, but players got tired of dying in spectacularly cool ways, so I switched back to just being realistic and fair ;) Rulings, not rules: Nah, I like solid rules. Old school rules are more open to interpretation, but I still want an unbiased reference that everyone has agreed upon before hand. I wouldn't want a GM that did TOO many of his own homebrew rules. Long ago, players forced me to play in a non-committing improvising style, and I got better and better at it. If the story calls for an ancient red dragon to talk to you guys or something, and you attack it at first level, you're probably gonna die, and that's on you. If you attack innocent people, and get caught, the law will pursue and harass you, etc. CONSEQUENCES PEOPLE! I try to make this realistic, and not what I FEEL should happen. I'm slightly on the harsh side, but only because I know it makes a legit victory taste that much sweeter. I don't fudge rolls. Unfortunately sometimes people die. The dice gods demand it.. Basic Fantasy: Have you ever wanted to play an old video game you played as a kid? You remember it being sooo cool at the time. Some company re-issues an exact version of the game and you buy it. Now you remember why you got tired of it. You had forgotten the graphics were this dated and the controls are all wonky compared to modern games. You play it for 20 minutes then go back to your new games. Then you have games that are totally remade and not just remastered (Like Tony Hawk or Ninja Turtles). They're not exactly the same, but they almost feel like they are the way you remember ( even though they have subtle improvements). That's Basic Fantasy. It uses the more modern "ascending" AC. Unlike original Basic D&D, it let's all races pick a class, not just humans. Also the combat has a few tweaks that make it more clear, but still maintain the old-school feel. Basic Fantasy is an improved remake, that has all the sprit and feel of an old school game. I am also interested in Blades in the Dark, and Dungeon Crawl Classics, but can only take on so much at once.
