About BearlyDM
Hi! I'm Mike As someone that has played and run tabletop games for over 15 years, I've found countless hours of enjoyment in roleplaying games. I've been playing some form of D&D since I was in school, starting out initially playing 3.5 with friends at college. As time passed I moved from just playing to running One-shots and Stories for those very friends, I found that while being a player is a fun experience, being able to write stories for others is where I thrive. This grew from One-shots to full campaigns where I transitioned from just a part time dungeon master. I started homebrewing, building my own unique worlds, which players bring to life with the actions and tales they weave within it. I still run established modules and find them to be great frameworks and backgrounds to the characters within, allowing players to shine as stand out individuals within the established lore of the system they are in. This gives me the chance to showcase player character backstories and quests.

I became a GM because
I love creating stories that are not just static things. That each story is influenced and developed by players makes DMing appealing to me.
I got started GMing...
Running small games in a close knit group of friends. That expanded over time. Online during the pandemic, running Pathfinder with friends, to me choosing to host games at my local game store and then now to SPG.
How BearlyDM runs games
As a dungeon master I adore being able to watch the worlds I use come alive through player choices, giving them meaningful options besides, fight and flee. A players choice to spare a wounded beast may give way to a surprise reunion down the way. Players can come to me with any manner of backstory and as long as my few rules are followed, I'll do everything I can to include the story that YOU the player want to have. Exploring the character you've built is the number one priority in any tabletop, friends made at the table can be life long after all! If there's one rule I adhere to more than any other it's rule of cool. I encourage players to use every piece of their arsenal when it comes to solving the myriad problems that plague NPCs. More often than not I find myself saying "Yes and!" rather than "No, but", I believe this helps build up players feelings of being powerful, being able to alter the tide of battle not just with attacks but all the other tricks they might have. I'm knowledgeable in D6, D20 and D100 systems, With Dungeons and Dragons Fifth Edition being the first and foremost among them. I'm inclusive and I'm happy to have beginners and veterans at my tables. I do my best to ensure a warm and welcoming atmosphere at my tables, I ensure that player limits are respected. I strive to run campaigns that are fun for all and look forward to talking with you all.

I love it when a player
Brings their own ideas and story to the table. Having someone approach me with an idea they want to develop and build upon is probably my favourite type of player. Tabletop RPGs are for collaborative story telling!
I think min/maxing...
Min maxing is fine! If you are the type of player that derives enjoyment from making your character the pinnacle of stats then I'm here for it. I'd like to think that even with min/maxing I can challenge such players.
